Vidya Balan fined several times for tinted glass in her car

Mahesh Bhatt, known for his frank speak, once remarked, "Actors crave recognition; from the urchin at the signal lights, to the man on the street, they want everyone to recognise them. Ironically, when their face gets recognition, they roll up their dark glasses and hide behind them."

Seems these lines currently apply to Vidya Balan.

The poster girl of awards has reportedly paid multiple fines to the Mumbai Traffic Policebecause her car has tinted glass windows. And, the actress refuses to change that.

A source mentions that Vidya has been pulled up quite often over the past few months and was given the option of either paying up the fine or stripping her windows of the tinted glass. But it seems the actress prefers keep the tinted glass for two reasons.

Firstly, she doesn't wish to get unwarranted attention and secondly, she has low tolerance to harsh sunlight.

What the law says
A Supreme Court judgment prohibits the use of black films as window tint, regardless of the VLT (Visual Light Transmission Index), May 4, 2012 onwards. It also prohibits the use of 'any other material' from being pasted on car windows. Car manufacturers were directed to produce vehicles with tinted glass of no more than 70% VLT for the front and rear, and a maximum of 40% VLT for the sides. The directives were issued to all traffic authorities and the police were ordered to fine offending vehicles. Last October, a fine of Rs 100 was levied on offenders in a drive by the Mumbai Traffic Police against four-wheelers using tinted glasses.
