Actor Rajpal Yadav, facing financial hardship, surrendered to Tihar Jail authorities on Thursday due to an outstanding debt of Rs 9 crore. In a show of support, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) is urging the Indian film and television fraternity to assist Yadav during this challenging period, as several actors have already offered their help.
FWICE appeals film industry to help Rajpal Yadav
In an official statement, FWICE wrote, "Members across 36 affiliated associations issue an earnest and heartfelt appeal to the entire Indian Film & Television fraternity to come together in support of Shri Rajpal Yadav during a period of severe personal and financial distress."
"Shri Rajpal Yadav is not merely a celebrated actor known for bringing joy and laughter to millions, but also a dedicated member of our industry who has contributed immensely to Indian cinema through decades of sincere work and memorable performances," the official statement further reads.
The statement went on to underscore that financial crises are not limited by an individual's position or accomplishments, and it appealed to the film industry to extend their support to Yadav. "This situation is not reflective of his character or integrity, but rather the result of circumstances that spiralled beyond control. At this critical juncture, FWICE believes this is a moment for the industry to demonstrate its unity, compassion, and collective responsibility towards one of its own."
"FWICE therefore appeals to all producers, directors, artists, technicians, associations, and well-wishers to extend their moral and financial support to help Shri Rajpal Yadav resolve his liabilities and regain his freedom, dignity, and peace of mind," the note further concluded.
About Rajpal Yadav’s cheque bounce case
In 2010, Rajpal Yadav's directorial debut, "Ata Pata Laapata," faced a setback when it failed at the box office, despite Yadav having borrowed Rs 5 crore from M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd for the project. Before his surrender, Yadav shared his predicament with Bollywood Hungama, revealing his inability to repay the debt. "Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain. Aur koi upaay nahin dikhta (sir, what to do? I don't have the money to pay back. Can't see another way out)," he stated. When questioned about seeking assistance from his peers, the actor expressed a sense of isolation, saying, "Everyone is on their own in the industry."
