Rajpal Yadav’s ongoing legal troubles have taken centre stage after a Delhi court ordered him to surrender in connection with a cheque bounce case linked to an alleged Rs 9 crore liability. The actor complied with the directive and was subsequently sent to Tihar Jail. The case, which has its roots in a financial dispute dating back more than a decade, has resurfaced sharply, placing Yadav back in the spotlight for reasons beyond cinema.
As news of his incarceration spread, members of the Hindi film industry began reaching out to offer assistance. This response comes despite Yadav having earlier remarked that he had “no friends” in the industry. In a recent interaction, his manager Goldie revealed that several prominent figures have expressed willingness to help him during this period.
Speaking to Screen, Goldie said, 'A lot of people have reached out to help Rajpal Yadav. Actors like Sonu Sood, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn have extended their support. I was just on a call with David Dhawan, he too reached out. Ratan Jain, Varun Dhawan, many people are coming forward to help him this time, which Rajpal has deeply appreciated.'
While he refrained from confirming whether any financial backing was arranged before Yadav surrendered, Goldie indicated that support has been pledged as the matter intensified. He also addressed the emotional toll on the family and their hope for a swift resolution.
'Everyone has made commitments, but such transactions don’t happen overnight. Mentally, the family has to remain strong. Rajpal Bhai himself is very strong, and that strength runs in the family. There are also several celebrations lined up at home, with family functions scheduled later in February. Everyone wants Rajpal Bhai to be out by then. Hopefully, he should be released by tomorrow,' he added.
The dispute dates back to 2010 when Yadav took a loan of Rs 5 crore from Delhi based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial project Ata Pata Laapata, released in 2012. The film underperformed commercially, and the unpaid amount eventually escalated into a legal battle that has now led to his imprisonment.
