West Indies also began with a win, though Scotland made them work. It took one extraordinary over from Romario Shepherd - a hat-trick that flipped the game - to seal it for Shai Hope’s side. There’s no shortage of firepower in their batting, with Shimron Hetmyer and Sherfane Rutherford in good touch. The bowling, however, can look a touch one-dimensional - two left-arm spinners and a pace attack of similar profiles. Do they stick with the winning combination or consider someone like Roston Chase for that off-spin option against England’s left-handers? Plenty of intrigue heading into this one. Toss and teams coming up..

England were given an early jolt in their opener against Nepal. Defending 10 in the final over, it needed calm nerves from Sam Curran to close it out - a reminder to Harry Brook and his men that reputations count for little in this format. On paper, they have it all: explosive openers, a fearless middle order, seam-bowling all-rounders and variety in attack. But as that game showed, T20 cricket demands sharpness for the full 40 overs. The upside? They’ve already had a hit-out at the Wankhede Stadium, which could prove handy.

Good afternoon and welcome to Match 3 of a remarkable day at the Men's T20 World Cup. Have you scraped yourselves off the ceiling after Afghanistan versus South Africa this morning? Three sixes in a row with all hope lost, and a shot at a fourth to win it for Rahmanullah Gurbaz? Maybe it reminded you of something... as might this evening's fun and games. Yes, a decade on from that epic 2016 World T20 final, England and West Indies meet again. Expect fireworks! Our appetites have been whetted, after all...

And what of England, whose near-miss against Nepal is now only the second-closest finish of the tournament?

Jos Buttler, another 2016 veteran, has played down the prospect of 250-300 scores becoming commonplace in this tournament, citing the extra jeopardy of an ICC event. Even so, England breached the latter barrier only last summer, so if anyone can, they've shown it can be done.

The teams are warming up nicely amidst all the socializing as the light roller goes to and fro on what looks like a fresh pitch. England said they've made just the one change and going by the West Indies bowlers who've marked their run-ups, looks like they won't do much tinkering too. Hardly any crowd so far after two packed games here a few days ago. Let's hope we get more people coming in soon from the offices South Bombay is known for."

Twenty minutes to go until the toss. VIshal Dikshitis in situ at the Wankhede, and brings us up to speed with the scene on the ground:

"Time for old mates to catch up: Nasser Hussain and Marcus Trescothick. Daren Sammy and Carlos Brathwaite. Brendon McCullum and Daren Sammy. Samuel Badree and Akeal Hosein. It's all a massive mingling party in the middle at Wankhede as we countdown for the toss. Remember, it's a catch-up of two T20 powerhouses who last faced off in Mumbai 10 years ago in the 2016 edition when Chris Gayle took down England with his scintillating century. And then these two met again in Kolkata in the grand finale…remember the game?

reland's challenge is frittering away against Australia. It's almost time for the toss in Mumbai. Dew will be a factor with the 7pm start, so could be a useful one to win

Ben Stokes down on his haunches, Carlos Brathwaite roaring with arms outstretched, West Indies players flooding the field, and Ian Bishop on air delivering the immortal line - “Remember the name.” Whenever England and West Indies meet in a T20 World Cup, memories of that 2016 classic aren’t far away. A decade on, much has changed. England have since added multiple white-ball world titles to their cabinet and built a side packed with depth and flexibility. West Indies remain a dangerous T20 outfit, though the aura of their title-winning era has faded slightly. All of which brings us to this crucial Group C encounter.

Sanket: "This seems to big first big clash of the season. Surprisingly West Indies looks a more settled than England where more batters seems to batting out of their position and getting best out of each one isn't going to be easy. Also their bowling apart from Curran needs to step up on these not so bowling friendly especially Adil and Archer." Agree with the bowling part, but England are pretty content with their batting line-up, I'd argue. Brook is maybe a place too low, but not a terrible problem to have.
