Actor Rajpal Yadav’s bail plea is set to come up for hearing on February 12, even as he continues to serve a six month jail term in a cheque bounce case. The development was confirmed by his manager Goldie, who said the family is waiting anxiously for relief. “There is a bail hearing tomorrow, and the family is hopeful that he will be out of jail,” Goldie told India Today.
The Delhi High Court had directed the 54 year old actor to undergo imprisonment in a case dating back over a decade. Yadav had reportedly borrowed Rs 5 crore in 2010 from a Delhi based businessman to finance his directorial venture Ata Pata Laapata. According to his legal team, he surrendered before Tihar Jail authorities last week after efforts to settle the dues did not materialise.
Amid the legal proceedings, Goldie claimed that several members of the film fraternity have stepped in with financial assistance. He named Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn among those who have taken the initiative. He also said filmmaker David Dhawan informed him that his son Varun Dhawan would extend support.
“The whole industry is coming forward to help him at this time. Sonu Sood has publicly supported him. Actors like Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn have taken the initiative, and even David Dhawan has told me that Varun will help him. I don’t want to name only a few members and unintentionally belittle the rest of the industry,” he said.
Goldie further stated that the Federation of Western India Cine Employees had issued a letter urging members to support Yadav. He maintained that many individuals have come forward and expressed hope of overcoming the situation soon.
He also addressed speculation around a family wedding scheduled for February 19. “The wedding was planned almost two to three months in advance, and we could not let the current situation affect it. It's just about a week away, and the family felt they should neither call off nor postpone the celebrations. In fact, it gives them a sense of normalcy during these tense times. As I said, we are hopeful that Rajpal ji will be back home soon. The family is praying that he is able to attend the wedding festivities,” he said.
Before surrendering, Yadav had told Bollywood Hungama, “Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain. Aur koi upaay nahin dikhta. Yahan hum sab akele hain. There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own.”
