I think critisizing any religoin is totaly ridiculous. Even if he claims it wasn't his personal opinion, what was the need to share it then? He is a Catholic leader and should stick to texts that relate to the Roman Catholics. I am not a Muslim but yet found this very disturbing and to some extent sickining.

Anyways its just made half the world go bizerk and hasn't done anything to clear the relationship between Muslims and the western world.

The following is the conclusion of the speech that the Pope gave. I have also included the link for the entire speech.
What I have gathered is that the Pope was saying that what the 14th century emporer was saying is not the right spirit for today's time. Reason should not exclude faith and pleurality of faith and trying to do so woul create more conflicts. Like I said in my first post, I did not know the context to that statement. Having read it, I do not think the Pope meant to be insulting, it was just an inept reference. Unfortunately weather the peope meant to insult or not, people who killed an innocent nun once again proved what the Pope did not mean. Killing to protest an accusation of being violent by nature is like saying: 'I am not a gambler, you wanna bet? ' Only much more tragic, much more scary way.

Well, this is what has been happening...History is full of such incidents..always the innocent people are being sacrificed...😒

Dear Friends!!

Pope should'nt have told all those things. However the issue is settled so people should'nt make mess over that issue. After effects are really horrible.Last time there was a mess over the issue of cartoons. The people who published the cartoon are hale and healthy but innocent poor people all over the world got effected.A fool in Europe published the cartoon but a poor foothpath vendor got killed by it in India, this vendor has nothing to do with it.Does it make anysense? The ultimate goal of any religion is to have compassion to fellow beings!!!

cheers,

I also heard what the Pope had to say and I don't think he meant to be insulting. Personally, I don't understand why there were these massive protests and so forth. I don't know...I don't think he even owed an apology because what he said what taken out of context. My understanding is that he wanted to better understand the current situation in the world and he went back to text that written so many centuries ago. Isn't it important to understand the history in order to grasp today's situation? Bin Ladin over in Timbaktu is citing all kinds of things against everyone. Why doesn't he apologize? 😕 He doesn't even have the gut to come out and show himself. What is he gonna apologize...

In a perfect world, there would be no divides between religion. No religion would consider themselves better than another religion. In a perfect world, people would let people live. Alas, if only...

Just my opinion. Thanks.

👏

well said jp.

i do not think that the pope with his stature and publicity he is likely to attract, meant it any other context.

the religion i follow is usually the one i had the fortune to be born into. yet some of us get passionate enough to pronounce that what we follow is the best and the only choice that exists. all the rest are pronounced non believers😕...

agreed it is only a few , the minority. why let a few put the rest on the defensive? we have find ways to stand up and say no to violence, instead of finding excuses for them, everytime.

as jp says if only people would let people live

i don't think the pope should have said that, he's such a great figure and by saying this he has just lost his own respect and dignity by talking like that about a religon....
