Reality show The 50 has landed in controversy after a comment by Prince Narula triggered a public exchange with Nikki Tamboli. Both are currently seen on the show, which streams on JioHotstar and Colors TV. The issue began after Prince allegedly made a remark about Nikki’s body during a segment on the show. Soon after, Nikki’s team released a statement questioning his conduct as a “so-called husband, father, and public figure.” The statement also referred to his one year old daughter, which intensified the matter.

Responding to the backlash, Prince’s team issued a clarification. According to a report by The Times of India, his team stated that the comment was made in a casual setting and was not intended to insult anyone. The statement read, “The humour that was shared happened in a light, spontaneous moment where everyone in the room was laughing, teasing, and even poking fun at themselves – including Prince. The intent was never to single anyone out or to hurt, insult, or demean. It was one of those playful exchanges that naturally happen when people are comfortable and the atmosphere is easy. What is important to acknowledge is context and timing. The jokes were made openly in the house and were not objected to at the time. If something truly felt offensive or unacceptable, it could have been addressed then – or even by her team outside the house."

The team further claimed that nearly twelve days passed before the matter was raised seriously, suggesting that the comment was initially taken in a lighter spirit.

However, they strongly objected to the mention of Prince’s daughter. As quoted, the statement added, “We respect feelings, and if someone later felt uncomfortable, that deserves to be expressed. But turning a casual, mutual exchange into a major controversy after so much time, and reframing it as something malicious, distorts the reality of what happened. What is truly not right is taking this discussion further by dragging family – especially a one-year-old child – into it.”

Earlier, Nikki had shared a clip and wrote, “So-called husband, father, public figure. If someone spoke about your daughter’s body like this, would you laugh too? This isn’t strategy. This isn’t a game. This is body-shaming done quietly – the coward’s way. Cameras don’t cancel character. Influence doesn’t excuse disrespect. Mocking someone behind their back isn’t power. If you have something to say, say it to the face. Behind-the-back mocking isn’t strength – it’s fear pretending to be confidence. And influence without responsibility? That’s not leadership. That’s failure. That’s weakness with an audience.”

The exchange has now added another layer of tension to the ongoing season.
