and here's another anti-Islamic remark!

Chrisitian Pope Benedict XVI quoted 600-year-old words which were purely anti-Islamic (why did he get just those words of hate?😕)

79-year-old pontiff quoted from a 14th-century Byzantine emperor, Manuel II Paleologos.

"The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war," the pope said. "He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.'"

I know muslims are using terrorism but they don't represent whole community.

Even Indians (as a minority) were extremist during fight against British rule (thats what i read in 8th class history text book) but every Indian was not!

didn't christians murdered millions during times of crusades and colonialism (with former Popes blessing to christianise the world)? but that do not make whole christian community terrrorists.

do you think that Pope was right in quoting these hatred words in these tough times when people are talking about clash of civilisation?

the world will look at muslim protest and label them 'violent' but few will see the reason behind it.

sorry if the article looks racist to anyone of you!

Indian freedom fighters stand apart from most if not all others in that they never were occupying anyone else's land. Indians have been on their own land for 5 thousand years and Brits were clearly ruling a land that was not their own at any time.
Had Indians spread out of India to 'spread' one of the Indian religions and then called the acquired land thier own and then fought others out of the newly acquired land with force or violence having obliterated the indegenous people's identity and culture, then your comparison would apply. But you will see in your textbook that that NEVER happened.

I do not understand the context of Pope's statement (BTW, a Pope is always Christian) so cannot debate that. If He did say something truly inflammatory, a person of His stature should not have. I agree with you on that. He has offerd an explaination but an apology would not be a bad idea. However yesterday on American news I saw some Desis rallying with playcards that said 'Pope Benedict ko fansi do'. That is way out of line and unfortunately plays into the Pope's - however ill thought as it might have been - premise. Saying something not-so-smart is not a reason enough to hang someone.

dont get it wrong yaar.

and i dont have the text book to tell you the exact words... it was NCERT book.

hope you remember that we were told to distinguish between 'moderates and extremists' in exams. it was about their tactics to overthrow british leadership.

by the way, the topic is about different matter.

I agree with Dr. Abhijit, someone with so much power and influence should never say racist remarks to the world. BUT he is Christian, and it was his opinion and probably the opinion of the church as well. He is obligated to tell his opinion in this matter. However, he was very blatant about his opinion, and definetely said those words to sting. Personally i believe that this is just another thing the pope has done that is controversial to atrract the church back into the news. Publicity is something that is vital for the church, and right now they are losing a lot of members. (now this is not me saying that it justifies what he said becaus it does not, i'm just stating a reason on why he might have said it). I do think what he said about muslims was wrong.

Yes, during the crusades the christians killed more people than the holocaust, yet we refer to it so casually, but during WW2 we harshly punished the Germans for just attempting genocide, but overlooked the fact that the christians had commited genocide. There are radical religious groups in every era, and right now the muslim terrorist are the most radical, and that's why they are being picked on.

agreed. The Pope should apologise for what is purely a racist, prejudiced remark.

For a man of such a high stature, he has shown a remarkable lack of common sense and respect for Islam. It shows nothing but his colossal ignorance regarding the religion.

I think one of the reasons why we have sooooo many religious controversies, is because people tend to stereotype and typecast a religion based on the acts of a few wayward people.

People should remember that no religion has perfect followers, if that was the case, the world would be filled with good people who know no evil, coz no religion preaches evil, violence or harm to humanity or other religions.

I hate it when I click Quote instead of Edit...and without realising it, I end up quoting myself!!!. Talk abt narcissim..😆

I think the time till which the Delete button remains for a post depends on the time you posted it. I guess after a certain limit, the button vanishes!!
