Valentine’s Day ... celebrated every year on 14th February ... is a day to honour love in all its forms. It’s not just about romantic partners it’s about friendships, family bonds, self love, and those little moments that make our hearts feel full. This day is all about expressing gratitude, care, and affection to the ones who make life brighter. But originally, it wasn’t about fancy dates or social media posts. The day actually has a long and slightly dramatic history that goes back to ancient Rome.

A long time ago in ancient Rome, there was said to be a priest named Valentine. At that time, the emperor had banned young men from getting married because he thought single men made better soldiers. Valentine didn’t agree, and he secretly helped couples get married. When this was discovered, he was put in prison and later executed. Over time, people began to remember him as someone who stood for love, loyalty and standing by relationships even when it wasn’t easy.

There are other stories too. One says that before his death, Valentine wrote a letter to a girl he had become friends with, and signed it “From your Valentine.” That one line somehow travelled through history and turned into something the whole world still uses.

As years passed, writers and poets in Europe started connecting this day with romance. Slowly, people began exchanging love notes, and much later came cards, flowers and all the things we see today.

7th February - Rose Day

People give roses to express feelings. Different colours even have different meanings - red for love, yellow for friendship, white for peace, and so on.

8th February - Propose Day

The day people choose to confess feelings or finally say what they’ve been holding back.

9th February - Chocolate Day

As simple as it sounds ... gifting chocolates, because sweetness is the theme.

10th February - Teddy Day

Cute soft toys become the symbol here.

11th February - Promise Day

This one is about emotional things ... promises of support, loyalty, or just being there for someone.

12th February - Hug Day

A hug is seen as comfort, reassurance, and warmth without needing big words.

13th February - Kiss Day

Usually connected with couples, symbolizing closeness and affection.

14th February - Valentine’s Day

The main day ... celebrating love in whatever form it exists in your life.

Here are some simple, meaningful ways to celebrate:

- Write a heartfelt message - a caption, card, or text that tells someone they matter.

- Share a moment - chocolates, coffee, a walk, even a voice note can make someone’s day.

- Celebrate friendships - shout out that friend who always shows up.

- Love yourself - yes! Treat yourself with kindness, chill plans, favourite food, whatever makes you happy.

Valentine’s is a reminder to say “I love you”, share a smile, or even send a message that makes someone feel seen. Whether it’s your partner, your best friend, your sibling, or even yourself ... every kind of love deserves celebration. Happy Valentine's!!!!
