SRGMP Bollywood Singing Superstar (Male)

Welcome, to IF's SRGMP Competition!




Here it is. 16 contestants. Some of the best male singers over the past 2 decades. They will go head to head, and we will choose a winner. The best male singer in the past 2 decades! Now, as you can see, this is past 2 decades. So songs from 1990 and only be played. Also, in the singer selection, more weight was given to singers recently than say the early 90s.


But how does this work?

• We start Round 1 with 16 professional male singers from the past 2 decades. Each perform on a chosen song
  

• We listen to each's song, and then based on their performance in the song, we give them a rating (through a poll) out of 10. There are 4 selected judges who will do the same.These 4 judges also will have a team of 4 singers, and will do most of the song choosing for them. Kind of like the Gharanas in SRGMP.
  

• We average the scores after Round 1, and the playback singer with the lowest score is eliminated. We then move to Round 2 with 15 singers. And keep going till there is a winner!

Some notes and details:

• It will be 50% Audience (Poll for everyone) and 50% Judges.
• Set 5 as the average for a Bollywood playback performance according to you, and rate out of 10 based on that.
  
• In picking a song for the performance in the round, you can either send recommendations to the me, the judges, or they will pick themselves.
  

• Each singer will have their own Round thread where we have a poll to rate their performance...

So let's start by introducing the judges! We need judges, because sometimes audience voting can get out of hand, and we want the best winner. That's why we have judges to help balance things.


The 4 Judges will be

cosworthkid007- A first time judge. He has shown great knowledge in singing and judging it in the past. Sometimes get a little lengthy, but what he says is gold. Won't be afraid to give low marks, and will give high marks as well when deserving. Overall, has a great feel for singing and I think he'll do a great job 1st time as judge!

ssk13809- This would be the controversial judge of the show. He has judged before, and has done a great job. But at times, can go a little crazy. Think Himesh. Overall, a judge who will help with the variety in the judging lineup.

Somone999- Another great judge! Has judged before. She has a reputation for being the most unbiased judge to judge. A person you can always count on to be fair. Besides for that, has shown good ability to judge singing in general and is pretty active.

Cutiepie Rani- Another awesome judge! Probably the best actual singer out of all the judges. Has posted a lot of her singings on the forums. But besides for just singing well, also knows how to judge it well. Can get a little emotional at times, but overall so far so good. Also very active which is the most important thing!

And then a "Maha-Judge"

mind-googling- Unlike the other judges, mind-googling will not have a team of singers and will act like SRGMP used to called it a "Maha-Guru". Like Asha in the past.

And he is well suited for this role. Great musical sense, knowledge, and overall great musical package to do the role of the maha-judge.



Overall, all the judges have proven good ability to judge songs, and there is a nice overall mix with each bringing something on the table. I like this group!

Now let's take a look at the singers. Separated by Gharana and ABC Order
The singers were selected based upon

-how great they are at singing. obviously #1 factor
-popularity
-They have sung enough songs in the past 2 decades
-Newer singers are favored in selections
-ONLY singers whose primes were in the last 2 decades are selected. So just like Asha and Lata weren't in the female competition even though they sang a lot of songs in the past 2 decades, it's because their primes weren't in the past 2 decades so they couldn't be included.

Even with 16 singers, all good singers couldn't be selected. Some of those not-selected might make an appearance in wild card. But yeah, there are some singers who might even be more deserving but didn't make it. Hopefully we'll see the other great ones in Wild Card.







Even though he might not have sung much this decade, everyone knows him. A legend already. He started singing back in 1984, but his big breakthrough came in 1990, and after that he dominated. He won filmfare best playback singer for 5 straight years. A feat unheard of today. The amount of hit songs he sung in the 90s is countless. And he also has many hits in the 00s. A big contender to win this whole competition.





Another singer who needs no introduction. We all know Shankar Mahadevan. Without a doubt one of the best male singers in India. He is also a living-legend. Classically trained and has sung many hits in Bollywood as well. Multiple National Award winner and overall another strong contender to go all the way.






Another singer who needs no introduction. Has made quite an impact in bollywood in just 5 years and is quite popular. His singing is unique and has made quite a few fans. Also has won some awards but let's see how far his popularity (or lack of) will take him.





One of SRGMP's own. Kunal Ganjawala started from SRGMP and now is one of the most well-known singers in Bollywood. He has been pretty popular this decade and has had many hit songs overall. He has won many awards as well and is probably one of the better singers in this competition.



Another very popular singer. His singing got a huge boost back in the late 90s. After that, he has been known as an elite singer singing countless amount of hit tracks with AR Rehman. He has won multiple awards, and sung multiple hits. Overall, one of the strong contenders in this whole competition. Tough to beat.







One of the most unique voices of the Bollywood music industry, his songs are always a treat to listen to. Soulful voice is the correct word to appreciate the voice of Kailash Kher. Powerful singer overall.










Another great singer. He was one of the top singers from the late 90s to early 00s. Many hit songs that are still sung today. He also has awards and overall is a well-known singer for the past 2 decades. A strong contender.





One of the most popular singers, if not most popular, in this contest. Atif is here because of his popularity. It's lately he has just taken off. He has many fans and it will be interesting to see if he can hang with the top singers in the past 2 decades.




Another very popular and talented singer. He is very charming and has many fans. Always smiling and singing very well. He has won multiple awards for himself and when you think of Shaan, all you can think is him singing with a big smile on his face. Definitely a strong contender to win this thing.





Another living-legend in this competition. Udit Narayan dominated the 90s and much of the 00s as well. He has one of the most recognizable voices in Bollywood. He has sung many hit songs, won many awards, and no doubt is one of the best in this contest. Look for him to go very far here.

Now let me just leave a post to make important points.


1. Though the singers are being split into teams, remember, this still a singer vs. singer game not a team vs. team. Think of the current SRGMP, though everyone is in teams, you can sense it's more of a singer competition rather than team. So the judges are going to be as least bias as possible in judging singers from there and other teams. Once again, think of the actual SRGMP, the judges are partial towards all the singers and treat them equally. The team thing is just to make it more SRGMP style.



2. As we rate each singer, remember, we are rating their singing not the song! Also, PM Song recommendations!

3. It is a good idea to discuss and comment on each singer's singing when their Round thread opens up. Not only are ratings with reasons valued higher when determining average, but it gives other ideas what to vote for as well.

4. Also, realize there are many great singers here and it will be very competitive. In fact, most will be eliminated not because they are worse singers, but maybe they just had a bad song selection a particular round. So really, there could be different winners every time depending on audience, judges, and song selection.


5. Lastly, remember this is all for fun! We really are in no position to judge these great singers, but its just for fun. It also gives us a chance to appreciate the singing of some of these singers more. That's one thing you'll definitely take away from here.

Oh and Round 1 officially will start on Monday!

And the theme will be debut/break-through songs! A fitting theme to open up the contest...
