Note:
This was Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's Bollywood debut. So definitely applies to the theme this round!

First things first, the track did not match the genre of the song. Contemporary track with classical singing? I suppose it can be done, if done rightly. However, that was not the case in this situation. Anyways, coming to RFAK Sahab's singing, he has this natural talent to add a tanginess to his soothing voice by the added harkateys. I woule say wonderfully done, but his voice should've been more peppy or lively, rather than gloomy for the occasion, I would say, with all due respect to a great singer like him, that his voice was rather thin and didn't sound as well-developed as his singing NOW. I would like to give this song an 8!

This is quite an unusual song and I had to listen to it 4 times to get a feel of it. But sorry to say, this doesn't make the cut for me.

The contrast between the music and singing is immediately noticeable, the singing is good but he tunes are just blow average. It gets tiring and irritating as the track progresses and RFAK himslf actually sounds confused on what to sing. Is it a happy track with a hint of sadness or vice versa? It just doesn't gel.

And the way words "milo" and "dhale" are sang, it just gets pretty monotonous. Call it like forced singing. The harkats used, sorry to say, appear pretty fake. This so called out of the box thinking of whosoever designed this music completely falls flat and RFAK becomes a victim of it.
But this track does have some positives like proper tempo, consistent voice quality throughout and maintaining a constant scale of singing. But the sur again goes haywire and the voice does sound a bit feminish at times.

This song is like-listen it once and then forget it. I still cannot digest it. RFAK has sang some songs a zillion times better than this.

No more than a 6 this track deserves.

6/10.

Great singing by the great Rahat Fateh Ali Khan!

This was an awkward song as many others have said. But I liked all the subtle touches Rahatji added throughout the song. His classical training is evident even in this casual song.

I really also liked his whole

tum ko dekhay huway beetay kitnay zamanay
abb banao gay tum aur kitnay bahanay
is aag mein sanam jalo tum bhi kabhi
kyun is mein jalain hum hi
tum nay hai seekha humain tarpana
is baichain dil ko satana

sequence. Well done here. There was some nice prolongations at points, and a good mix of tempo. And his classical training showed even more in this sequence. Very well done. Also, you can see even from the start of his career his voice quality has been great and very clear.

Overall, the song wasn't too challenging, and awkward, but Rahatji did a great job throughout the song. Well done making the most out of something that is not even in his genre.

Rating: 8/10
