The last time Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit worked together, they rocked the box-office with their portrayal of Parvati (Paro) and Chandramukhi in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas. Several years later, fate or should we say Madhuri's indisposition got them together where Aishwarya rushed to help Madhuri before she set foot on stage.
Madhuri's dance performance at the 51st Fair One Filmfare Award at the MMRDA Grounds this Saturday was one of the most talked about event. It would be, considering the actress was making a stage appearance after six years. And she did not disappoint. The moment she broke into her first jig, 'Yeh Kiski Hai Aahat' from Devdas, fans went into a frenzy.
But just two hours before the show the scene was very different. Madhuri who arrived a few hours before the show was resting in her make-up van as she was running a high temperature. "Madhuri was unwell for last three days and she hadn't been rehearsing her dance numbers. She has a brilliant rapport with Saroj Khan so they sat and discussed the steps," informed Madhuri's secretary Rikku Rakesh Nath.
Madhuri had asked the backstage organisers not to disturb her. "She is extremely committed, if she promises to perform, she will do it at any cost," said Rakesh Nath. And the thorough professional that she is, Madhuri was rehearsing in the van when she started feeling weak. Things got worse since there was no medical store in the vicinity. When this news of Madhuri's illness reached Aishwarya, who was in another van, she rushed to see the unwell actress. "They were meeting after several years. They hugged and then Aishwarya called her Man Friday to get the medicine from her van," said a witness present.
Aishwarya sat with Madhuri as she took the medication. "I think Ash is a wonderful human being, I am thankful to her for being with me at my moment of crisis," said Madhuri Dixit who experienced relief on taking the tablet, and she didn't forget to thank Ash before she left the venue.
