Varun Dhawan's Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai avoids 'unnecessary competition' with Yash's Toxic, won't clash
The film was earlier locked for a June 5 release but will now hit theatres on June 12. The move comes shortly after Yash’s much awaited action drama Toxic changed its own release strategy and settled on a June 4 global launch.

The release calendar for 2026 continues to see interesting shifts as two major films adjust their theatrical plans. Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde’s upcoming entertainer Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai will now arrive in cinemas a week later than originally planned.
The film was earlier locked for a June 5 release but will now hit theatres on June 12. The move comes shortly after Yash’s much awaited action drama Toxic changed its own release strategy and settled on a June 4 global launch.
Makers confirm the decision to push release
https://www.instagram.com/p/DVsap1xjKil/The change was officially confirmed by director David Dhawan and producer Ramesh Taurani, Managing Director of Tips Films. In a note shared with the media, the team explained why the release date had been shifted despite the film being scheduled months in advance.
The statement read, “We would like to clarify that our film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai was originally scheduled for release on 5th June, a date we had announced several months ago. However, after recent developments and considering the prevailing situation, we felt it would be more appropriate to shift our release.”
The makers also spoke about the importance of cooperation within the industry and avoiding unnecessary clashes that could divide audience attention.
They said, “We strongly believe that it is always healthier for the industry when filmmakers support one another rather than compete unnecessarily on the same date. In that spirit of solidarity, we have decided to move the release of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai to 12th June and bring our film to the audiences a week later.”
Promotions for the Varun Dhawan film will continue
Even though the theatrical date has changed, the promotional timeline for the film will move ahead without disruption. The team is expected to begin unveiling the soundtrack and trailer soon as part of its planned marketing campaign.
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai brings together a lively ensemble cast along with Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde. The film also features Chunky Pandey, Ali Asgar, Rajesh Kumar, Rakesh Bedi and Kubbra Sait in key roles.
The project marks another collaboration for David Dhawan in the comedy entertainer space that he has long been associated with. The film is expected to carry his signature mix of romance, humour and high energy storytelling.
Yash’s Toxic shifts to June 4 worldwide
https://www.instagram.com/p/DVcu9WxjNlh/The release shuffle began after the team behind Yash’s Toxic A Fairy Tale for Grown ups confirmed that the film would no longer arrive in March. The action drama had originally been planned for March 19 but will now release globally on June 4, 2026.
The makers shared a detailed note explaining the reason for the change and the circumstances that led to the decision.
The statement said, “Toxic A Fairy Tale for Grown ups is a film we conceptualized with the vision to create cinema for a global audience. Filmed in Kannada and English, it is built with the conviction to connect with viewers both at home and across the world. After years of dedicated labour, we were excited to share our film with you all on the 19th of March. However, the current uncertainty, especially in the Middle East, has created a situation that impacts our goal to reach and connect with the widest possible audience.”
The makers further explained why the June release was chosen.
They said, “Therefore, in the interest of our partners and our audience, we have made the difficult but carefully considered decision to reschedule our release. We thank you for your understanding and patience and look forward to your continued love and support. Toxic A Fairy Tale for Grown ups will now be released in cinemas across the globe in English and Indian languages on 4th June 2026.”
Toxic had earlier planned a clash with Dhurandhar 2
Interestingly, Toxic was initially scheduled to release on March 19, the same day as the highly anticipated Dhurandhar Part 2. With the new announcement, that box office clash has now been avoided.
The reshuffle has also created a fresh release corridor in early June. With Toxic arriving on June 4 and Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai following on June 12, the upcoming weeks could see two very different films competing for audience attention.
For now, the adjustments have ensured that both projects get their own breathing space at the box office while building anticipation ahead of their respective releases.
Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde’s film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has postponed its release from June 5 to June 12. The makers said they want to avoid “unnecessary competition” after Yash’s Toxic moved its release to June 4. Despite the change, promotions including the trailer and soundtrack launch will continue as planned.
