Veteran actor Prem Chopra, known for his long and celebrated career in Indian cinema, has been admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Bandra, Mumbai. The 90-year-old actor has been under observation since Saturday, November 8, due to chest congestion.
The news was confirmed by his son-in-law, actor Vikas Bhalla, who sought to reassure fans about Chopra’s condition. “It’s all age-related and a regular procedure. There is nothing to worry about. He will be discharged in a few days,” Bhalla said.
Prem Chopra has been receiving medical care over the past three days and is reported to be recovering steadily. Family sources indicated that he is expected to leave the hospital within the next three to four days, depending on his recovery progress.
Chopra is widely recognised for his iconic roles as a villain in Hindi cinema. He began his career in Punjabi films, debuting with the National Award-winning Chaudhary Karnail Singh in 1960. Soon after, he entered Hindi cinema and gained recognition for his role in Shaheed (1965), where he portrayed a positive character, a contrast to the antagonist roles he would later become famous for.
From the late 1960s through the 1990s, Chopra appeared in numerous successful films, including Do Raaste (1969), Kati Patang (1970), Do Anjaane (1976), Dostana (1980), and Kranti (1981). His performances were marked by a distinctive charm that made his villainous characters memorable.
Over six decades, Prem Chopra has acted in more than 300 films, becoming one of Bollywood’s most recognisable faces. He shared a notable on-screen partnership with superstar Rajesh Khanna, appearing together in 19 films, several of which were box-office successes.
While fans continue to send messages of support, the actor’s family has requested privacy during this period. Prem Chopra’s health update highlights the routine challenges faced by senior actors while affirming that he is in stable condition and expected to return home soon.
