Will the 90's decade work again? NO? YES?

The 90's was a decade that was bombarded with romance, tradition, family, NRI crap, emotion, drama, etc. SRK thrived the era, and still is thriving (don't understand why), but anyways the topics listed above somehow swept the audience right from below their feet.
Let me point out my point, LOL:
Look at this, WOAH it's DTPH. Maya aur uska jaadoo toh chal hee gaya tha. The story was baseless but the movie contained great song numbers which declared it hit.
Here we have Raj and Simran, and their unconventional *rolls eyes* love story still can be viewed in theatre today.
Now we have Rahul and Anjali, who surpassed all hurdles of traumas.
So my point is, will these sorts of story work in B-town again? Do they have the scope? The issues that these sorts of movies tackled; can they still be presented today while being hit?
Quality of Bollywood has degraded in my view and films that present utter crap like Kambhaqt Ishq are only catered to the audiences, with a few exceptions of course.
Should this genre be brought back?
Excuse my scattered views. OH and 90''s was ruled by SRK, but I am sure many other actors/actresses worked on this genre as well aside from SRK. I just couldn't think of any as of now.
Write out your views.

zainu 90'a was a very hmmm how should i say .. a very important decade for the film industry ..... coz after the 80's style crap action thriller movies v were introduced to this whole new era of love which towards the later half of the decade became really stylish .... also this helped to draw the audience back to the theatres who had discovered the joy of watching movies at home !!!!
first of all i would say 90's belong not only to SRK .. but to the 3 khans ... SRK , aamir n salman ...... all 3 of them debuting around the same time ( almost with aamir n salman debuting in 1988 n 1989 respectively ) n SRK debuting in 1991 .
all 3 of them had different personalities ... aamir the thinker .... salman the brash bad boy wth a heart of gold n lastly SR the man with a midas touch ( post DDLJ almost every way he starred in did well ) ...so i wont say the 90's was only abt love stories n family drama n NRI crap .... coz at that time these ideas were explored for the first time hence creating this hysteria among the audiences !!!
for instance take a movie like dil hai ki manta nahi . i was 5 when i saw it ... n till this date is continues to be one of my Fav movies ... i think it was one of the first movies which had the protoganist running away from home ...meeting this stranger n the whole hate at first sight which gradually turns into love
then coming to hum aapke hain kaun ... in hindsight many called it a wedding video with 20 songs ... but then again being the first of those wedding kind of movies it had its novelty value .... the whole idea of flirting with ur sister's BIL ..... entire family playing cricket ..... i think there was something quite endearing in it
n then coming to DDLJ ...... barring a few i dont think any teenager while watching the movie didnt wish for a similar love story .... with children revolting against there parents n running away from home i think the movie had a very stuble msg .... seek the blessings of your parents !!!!
i have just named 3 movies which in my opinion represent 3 very different genres of the 90's style of movie making ..... there r 1000s of them .... peronally for me the 90's were way better tha the 2000s .... mayb because i itentify them with my growing up years
also i feel for every Dil to pagal hai there was an Ishq .... for every kuch kuch hota hai there was a ZAKHM .... really v had a varied genre of movies n then how can v forget aadaaz apna apna .. one of the best movies ever ..... so in my opinion can the 90s were way more versatiel than the 80s n the 2000's .... s can the 90's magic b repeated again .... sure y not .... btu v cant forget the fact that the men who gave us all these unforgetable movies have all aged n r way past the age to enact those roles again !!!!!

Zainab and Kanika, you both have brought up so many good points, that I don't know if I can really add much more. And I also "liked" both of your posts, but the button seems to not be functioning at the moment.

For me the 90s was when I was growing up, but it was also the point of time where I lost interest in Bollywood. The family melodrama overload combined with worshipping the needs of the NRI market really drew me away. And I remember sitting in a movie theater in India and watching two different movies a few days after another where the couple goes to Switzerland and that being stated in the movie. It was kind of unnerving in a way.

But yes for all of the boring and stereotypical love stories where the parents blessings' must be attained, there were a few gems like Zakhm and Andaz Apna Apna, as Kanika mentioned. One of my personal favorites is Kabhi Haa Kabhi Naa where SRK loses out on the the girl. It is a sad ending, but I think it really left a mark on the audience too. Love does not necessarily equal happiness; there can be heartbreak.

And yes, it was the decade of the 3 Khans, but I guess SRK was the one, who thrived the most. 80s was the decade of dishoom dishoom, but I think it was also the decade of many other films like Chasme Buddoor (David Dhawan remake news makes me wanna puke), Lamhe, etc. So it wasn't all bad, but I do feel like the 90s was a bit suffocating for me because there were little options. So I think I welcomed the 2000s because it brought out more options, darker films and different themes began to be explored. There were more horror films and gangster films, etc. Yes, I guess a family could not always watch a film together like it seemed to be in the 90s. But really should they always, sometimes you cannot just watch a film with children. Looking at you families, who took your small children, to see KANK at my local movie theater.👎🏼

Out with srk in with aamir! This is the matra of 2000's... Aamir represents flexibility, change, creative freedom, path breaking cinema, modern cinema. Srk passed the whole 90's with cliches, predictability, repetitition. Aamir khan represents the modern day actor who is not afraid to rediscover himself everyday.

I don't think 90's should be brought back entirely today, and it should be left on its own.

i dont think it will work agian, times have changed but you gotta love the 90's i grew up in the 90s so it is very special to me but even with english shows 90s was the best. Life was simple and fun. Movies could be watched with the family and that allowed bonding. Total escapism. THey didnt try to hard to be western. It was perfect.
