Venue: Eden Gardens, Kolkata

With the IPL 2026 league stage entering its decisive final week, Kolkata Knight Riders will host Mumbai Indians in Match 65 at Eden Gardens on May 20, with both teams eager to finish strongly.

While KKR still holds an outside chance of sneaking into the playoffs, the Mumbai Indians are aiming to avoid ending their disappointing campaign at the bottom of the table.

KKR’s hopes largely depend on their batting unit finding consistency. Finn Allen and Angkrish Raghuvanshi have looked promising at the top, but skipper Ajinkya Rahane’s dip in form has become a concern after a bright start to the season.

Their bowling attack has managed to pick up wickets regularly, though conceding runs at crucial stages remains an issue.

MI, meanwhile, gained confidence from their recent win over Punjab Kings. Their top order appears sharper, while contributions from the middle order and bowlers have added balance.

With pride and momentum at stake, both teams will be desperate for a strong performance.

IPL 2026 | Match 65 | Kolkata vs Mumbai (Details & Playing 11) | KKR vs MI Playing 11 IPL 2026

Languishing in the eighth spot with 11 points, there's an outside chance KKR might sneak through to the playoffs with even one win in their last two. Which, in itself, feels a bit farcical given the season they've had ft. losing ruts, untimely injuries and an inability to make the most of the Powerplay, both with bat and ball.

The aim, of course, is to win both, win them big and see what destiny has in store. But for that, they need their ace card, Varun Chakaravarthy, fit and firing. The 34-year-old spinner, who missed the RCB match and bowled with a "sore foot" against GT in the last match, trained on match eve before the MI fixture, but it was a short, sharp session behind one of the makeshift sightscreens at Eden Gardens, away from the media glare. Notably, he was limping while entering and exiting the field, suggesting that a full recovery remains a distant prospect.

KKR aren't alone in dealing with uncertainty though, with MI having their own fitness cloud to navigate through. Their captain didn't travel to Dharamsala due to back issues, instead spending hours training in Mumbai, which made it a conversation in itself, as it often happens with teams that are losing. But Hardik Pandya batted and bowled in MI's high-intensity training session two days before the match in Kolkata, and is likely to slot back in.

KKR vs MI Dream11 Prediction Today Match 65, IPL 2026 Fantasy Cricket Tips, Dream11 Team Today | CREX

IPL 2026: KKR playing 11 vs MI

Kolkata Knight Riders head into this must-win clash knowing only victory will keep their fading playoff hopes alive. After a poor start to the season, KKR have revived their campaign by winning five of their last six matches, but they still need results elsewhere to go in their favour.

Finn Allen has been one of their biggest positives, rediscovering form with explosive knocks at the top, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Cameron Green have added stability and momentum in the batting order. Rinku Singh has continued to play the finisher’s role effectively. However, skipper Ajinkya Rahane’s inconsistent returns remain a concern. KKR also have injury worries, with Matheesha Pathirana and Varun Chakravarthy under watch, making team balance crucial.

Kolkata Knight Riders playing 11 (probable): Finn Allen, Ajinkya Rahane (C), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (WK), Cameron Green, Rinku Singh, Manish Pandey, Sunil Narine, Anukul Roy, Varun Chakravarthy, Kartik Tyagi, Saurabh Dubey

KKR Vs MI Preview, IPL 2026: Knight Riders' Playoff Hopes On The Line Against Out-Of-Contention MI | Outlook India

IPL 2026: MI playing 11 vs KKR

Mumbai Indians may already be out of playoff contention, but they still have the opportunity to spoil KKR’s hopes and finish their disappointing season strongly. A major boost for MI is the likely return of captain Hardik Pandya, who has resumed full-intensity training after missing the last three matches due to injury.

However, Hardik himself has endured a below-par campaign with both bat and ball. MI’s biggest concern has been the underperformance of their senior Indian stars. Suryakumar Yadav has struggled for consistency, while Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma have failed to make regular big contributions. Jasprit Bumrah has led the pace attack admirably but lacked enough support. Mumbai will hope their experienced core delivers one strong performance.

Mumbai Indians playing 11 (probable):Ryan Rickelton (WK), Naman Dhir, Suryakumar Yadav (capt), Tilak Varma, Will Jacks, Hardik Pandya, Corbin Bosch, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, AM Ghazanfar, Jasprit Bumrah

Impact player: Rohit Sharma, Raj Bawa

Matheesha Pathirana Ruled Out? KKR Strongest XI vs MI For IPL 2026, Match 65 | CREX

There's little at stake for the already-eliminated MI but it's not the same for Pandya, who has been a shadow of himself in the IPL since switching franchises in 2024. And with potential captains and allrounders looking over his shoulder, a night of substance at the Eden Gardens wouldn't hurt.

When: Match 65, IPL 2026, 20 May 2026 at 7:30 PM local

IPL 2026, MI vs KKR Match: Date, Time, Venue, Squads, Predicted Playing XI, Tickets and Live Streaming Details - Sports News | The Financial Express

What to expect: Sweaty cricketers and a few empty seats in the stands for this mid-week fixture. The pitch is likely to be the one used for the KKR-RR match earlier this season, when Varun Chakaravarthy's Player of the Match performance (3 for 14) on a dry surface had helped the hosts snap out of their losing streak. The surface, which is located towards one side of the square, will also bring in skewed dimensions into play, with about 12 meters offset between the sides.

Weather wise, it's very, very hot and humid in Kolkata, and temperatures are set to be around 32 degrees around match start.

Head to head: KKR 11 - 25 MI

MI vs KKR IPL 2026 Match Preview & Fantasy Cricket Tips | AI11

Team Watch

Kolkata Knight Riders

Injuries/unavailability: Varun was seen limping in and out of his light practice session. Matheesha Pathirana, who pulled up after bowling eight balls on his KKR debut, didn't show up for any of the two practice sessions in the leadup to this match.

Tactics & matchups: Sunil Narine could be opening the bowling, with a favourable match-up to boast against Rohit Sharma (10 dismissals).

If Pathirana doesn't play, KKR might go for Blessing Muzarabani, who last featured in a match on April 2. Vaibhav Arora, who had a busy practice session, could also get a look-in but his numbers against MI batters don't argue his case.

IPL 2026: 'Take the lead and let others follow you' - Former India coach makes huge claim ahead of MI vs KKR clash

Team Watch

Mumbai Indians

Injuries/unavailability: Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are both in Kolkata and both had one intense training session at the Eden Gardens. Both are expected to be back. Quinton de Kock (tendon injury) and Raj Bawa (ligament tear) have been ruled out of the season.

Tactics & matchups: Bumrah against any batter in the world is a favourable match-up on most days of the week, but he particularly has a good record bowling to Rinku Singh, KKR's middle-overs engine.

AM Ghazanfar, who missed out in Dharamsala, could come back into the mix if the Kolkata pitch is as dry as it was for the RR match earlier this season.
