Although I'm German and living in Europe, my stays in India (never touristic ones, btw) told me a loooot about what's going on - former in Congress India, now in Modi India... the confidence in both is near to zilch among the real beggars and loooow income people in slums and crowded areas. Most of them just try to survive - in whatever way... but the real victims always, always are the kids. Please imagine the worst things that can happen to kids and you won't be wrong...

Tell that to the Pakistani member who started the comparison. He/she should not be speaking when their country is an embarrassment and a beggar.

Also, I agree on the income inequality bit, but upward mobility is also a reality. Our maids' kids have good jobs and are settled in other cities. People are actually earning more. The top 1% getting richer does not neccessary mean the other 99% is getting poorer. Compare your childhood to the present scenario. Most middle class people nowadays have 2-3 flats and can afford more than one car (like in my neighborhood). Unlike how things were in our childhood.
