I’m on Chapter 9 - it’s good so far though the translation could have been better - some words just don’t make sense. I saw ‘don’t look so frightening’ where I’m sure they meant to use ‘frightened’. Or ‘then’ instead of ‘than’

Idk if it’s a cultural thing but some things are surprising to me. Like a hospital doesn’t tell a patient what they have without family consent? Is that a thing in Japan? 😳

smiley19 I thought I'll start along with you since you were in the middle of the an another book, I thought I'll wait.

Nvm, I'll start now. smiley36

Yup, it's totally a cultural norm which is called 'family autonomy' -- it says like the family has the full right to take decisions on your behalf.

But that's not fair because it totally comes across as controlling smiley24

Oops so sorry. I said I’d start right after I finished the other book and assumed you’d start right away so we could circle back in a day or two to discuss where we’re at. Sorry I wasn’t more clear smiley18. I can wait for you to catch up if you’d like.

Yeah I don’t think that’s fair at all - the patient should be told first unless they are mentally unsound. I can understand giving someone like power of attorney to take medical decisions on your behalf when you’re unable to but not even telling you what your condition is pretty extreme.

No Lizzie, it's totally not an issue. I guess I should have informed I am waiting 😅 but yeah I don't think you'll have to wait. You can continue reading. I'll start with it so that we can be on the same page, literally smiley36

@b: exactly! Even while giving medical power of attorney, it is decided by the patient as to who will take decisions on their behalf. The above case feels like they are totally invalidating the patient's opinions & it has no weight at all.

Ok I cheated 🫣 and finished it - stayed up late last night since it was Sunday smiley36

What’s this movie Jane Jaan that this is supposedly based on? 🤔

I’ll wait till you’re done to say more cos I have a LOT to say but don’t want to spoil anything 😇

Yo Vee, how’re you doing with the book? 👀

You’ve been silent on this thread so asking. If you’re still reading it, no worries ☺️

Hey V, let me know when you’re done with the book so we can mark our Buddy Read as completed.

Yeah Lizzie, finished it yesterday! Loved it!!

Damn, that was a banger & how!!! smiley22 I'm mind-blown actually!!

I think I was a victim of the blind spots too because I actually thought Ishigami would turn out to be a stalker but damn, the devotion like Kusanagi said, is both staggering and a little scary.

Though I feel for the guy who died and didn't even know why.

The last part though, broke my heart a wee bit! smiley18 I understand what he did was a terrible crime but it wasn't as if Togashi was a good person. He was basically blackmailing Yasuko. I only feel bad for the Engineer guy.

Imo, Yukawa was even more brilliant than Ishigami, because essentially he found out the question of the solution 🫡
