Thanks a lot for posting this article smiley27

When one member here posted what the filmmaker Anant Mahadavan wrote on instagram at the time when he did so, I researched for his movie and also posted about what I found out. Then, lately, one member wrote about the short movie.

There are now two possibilities:

1) producers and directress only related on what the writer Biplab Goswami gave them as an "original" story and had been unaware of the short film and Mahadavan's movie or

2) they just decided to ignore that the story wasn't "original" and made everything their own.

Interestingly, now, on Wikipedia, a change had been made (bold):

"Original Story:Biplab Goswami[1]. The film is an adaptation of an Arabic short film Burqa City.

Screenplay and Dialogues:Sneha DesaiAdditional Dialogues:Divyanidhi Sharma
Based on"Two Brides"by Biplab Goswami"

Btw, when Kiran had been asked about the Mahadavan movie when it came on Instagram, she claimed to not have known about it, but obviously 'forgot' to mention Fabrice Bracq's short film...

Edit: I think, one also shouldn't neglect Rituparno Gosh's 2011 movie Noukadubi and - like the member @simplyrdb mentioned - the 1906 novel written by Rabindranath Tagore (whose Noukadubi was filmed already in 1947)...

Ananth Mahadevan’s dig at Laapataa Ladies’ wins

Ananth shared a poster of his film Ghoonghat Ke Pat Khol on Facebook, indirectly mentioning how the film ‘won awards’ at IIFA recently, including Best Original Story. He wrote, “GHUNGHAT KE PAT KHOL just made a clean sweep of something called IIFA awards.. including BEST ORIGINAL STORY!! Of course with another title.. but then a rose is a rose by any name!”

Ananth Mahadevan told Siddharth Kannan when asked if he believes Laapataa Ladies is plagiarized from Ghoonghat Ke Pat Khol, Ananth Mahadevan responded, “Up to a point, it is the same film but after the discovery of the brides they have gone on a different tangent of women liberation. That is the modern way of looking at it. In Ghunghat Ke Pat Khol, women respected the men for keeping them in their houses with honour, even when the women were not their wives. So, there is a subtle difference. But, there are scenes which are very similar to Ghoonghat Ke Pat Khol. If you think there can be so many similarities without plagiarism, it is great. Great minds think alike.”

Actually, I don't believe that they hadn't been aware that their story wasn't "original", but if one does shoddy work than - maybe - some would think "ignorance is bliss". I neither trust Aamir productions nor Jio Studios to admit that LL - basically - had been a kind of remake. A producer who'se ego feels that his p e r s o n a l rendition of Forrest Gump should get filmed and then again his p e r s o n a l rendition of Campiones/The Champions (which may become a success or not) would probably prefer to not mention very valuable sources...

Beena, again thanks a loooot for posting the video...I didn't find it when I researched at that time, but I didn't make a new research, so that I wasn't aware of the film getting (again?) on YouTube.

I'll watch it smiley27

I only quoted the part I want to comment because I admire this man's reactions (already when he posted on Instagram and then on facebook). He has a very subtle way to show his contempt for what had been done/said/thought.

Just citing him: Instagram: he felt "amused and humbled" (I suppose, meant in the signification of humiliated)... facebook: "a rose is a rose by any name!” (but not by appearance)... and the best in the interview: "If you think there can be so many similarities without plagiarism, it is great. Great minds think alike. (So, if the interviewer - Siddharth Kannan - thinks that, he would think like the LL makers.)
