Meena Kumari is a name that always reminds me of her legendary performances in depressing and emotionally charged roles. She was a wonderful actress, one of my favourite ones.

Here is my on of my favourite Lata-Meenakumari combination. I first listened to this song on Doordarshan, it has been one of my favourites siince then. Lata grasps the angst absolute perfect.

Ahh Nargis. She was such a sweet, calming presence on screen. I think unka first film, jo mujhe yaad hai - was Mother India. I can't forget the last scene between her and Sunil Dutt, the way she breaks down crying 'Birju, Birju'. That is etched in mind though I haven't re-watched Mother India in a long time. Then it's Jagte Raho. She appears for 2 minutes in the end for the song 'Jaago Mohan Pyare' and all the chaos ends with the serenity she brings. Kitna impact in a 2 minute role and for just a song!

Her standout performance for me has to be Raat Aur Din. She's amazing in it as Varuna whose trauma leads her to dissociative identity disorder (PS I hope they NEVER remake this movie!)

I also love her as Kammo in Chori Chori - it's such a different role for her compared to her more serious roles.

Nargis ke liye bh mujhe ek poll banana chahiye. Maybe on her birth anniversary.

May 5th Death anniversary of Legendary Music Director Naushad ji who himself belived that because of Khemchand Prakash his career established as MD.

Naushad worked with several lyricists, including Shakeel Badayuni, Majrooh Sultanpuri, D. N. Madhok, Zia Sarhadi, Yusufali Kechery and Khumar Barabankvi

Mother India (1957),[9] for which he had composed music, was the first Indian film that got nominated for an Oscar award.

In 1981, Naushad was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his lifetime contribution to Indian cinema.

He composed the tunes of Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story (2005) at the age of 86.

You have mentioned Naushad’s death anniversary but all the songs listed are composed by Khayyam, not Naushad.

Naushad composed music for films like Baiju Bawra, Shabab, Mughal-e-Azam, Leader, Ganga Jamuna, Deedar, Uran Khatola, Andaaz, Mother India, Mere Mehboob, Amar, Shahjehan, Dil diya dard liya - to name a few.

The songs of Umrao Jaan, Bazaar, Kabhie Kabhie were composed by Khayyam.
