The scene which you’re talking about was so bad actually.Typical TV drama sorts..and so it rightfully never got that sort of appreciation.

But how come no one brings up Aishwarya's role in Kuch Naa Kaho?

Has everyone forgotten her iconic dialogue delivery in the film's climax where she reprimands her husband Arbaaz Khan for leaving her for seven years and coming back and expecting her to welcome him with open arms? Her lines about how if she did what he did to her, left him for another man, he would never forgive her were so truthful especially when he debases her in public but when it's her turn to call him out, he tells her this is a private affair.

And let's not forget her performance in Provoked as a battered wife.

The same scene and dialogue appears during the climax of the movie Arth realeased 40 years ago

As much as I dislike Shabana Azmi as an actress, have to admit she says it and plays it with much conviction than Aishu

it was a semi-autobiograbhical movie from Mahesh Bhatt

She was good in Raazi but I don't feel she was entitled to that win especially not when Rani's Hichki came out the same year. Even if Alia is the best out of her age croup (which is not saying much), her performances still pale to the veteran actresses who are still around and delivering superb performances. The Gully Boy win was unnecessary and so was Udta Punjab. I am not a Sonam fan either but I agree that Neerja was her best performance and I was surprisingly enough glad that she got the Critics Award. I also agree that it would have made more sense for Alia to win the Critics Award that year instead.

Deepika's presence in Jawan certainly left an impact on audiences but did she have enough screentime to earn a nomination for Best Actress? I'm still leaning towards Rani winning especially since the day when actors and actresses who were in the highest grossing film would win, like in the 90s, has been over for a long time. Rani has been nominated multiple times in the last decade but hasn't won in forever and I think this latest role is her strongest chance to win a new Filmfare.

Sorry for the late reply.

Agree with you about Alia. If it weren´t for KJo, Alia would've struggled to find her footing in the industry, let alone becoming the top actress.

Until few years ago Alia was getting bracketed with Deepika, Katrina, PC etc.

But since the competition is tight in that bracket, KJo has started bracketing Alia with the newcomers, where she autocratically gets the edge. This became quite evident in the latest KWK episode.

@bold
I did not refer to Deepika´s role in Jawaan. I was talking about Pathaan.
The film revived Bollywood. I am certain she is getting nominated and has high chances of winning.
She was the solo female lead in the film with a good role, and the audiences liked her in that role.

As much as I like Rani, Mrs Chatterjee wasn´t her best performance. Also, the film was very successful at the BO and even critical acclaim was sort of mixed, unlike Hichki.

I know I am not an Alia fan but I've basically been forced to accept her as an actress because it's impossible to avoid watching her movies since KJo makes sure to put her in all the major Dharma productions. I've just learned to tolerate her. I wouldn't really have an issue with her as an actress if it didn't feel like she is being shoved down our throats all the time. I feel bad for Parineeti, who was her main contemporary, whose career has fizzled out in comparison and has struggled to make an eventful comeback.

I do think it's hilarious that KJo doesn't group Alia with Deepika, Katrina, etc. because he knows Alia is not as popular as them in terms of audience appeal and even talent. Sticking her with Janhvi, Sara, and Ananya is an easy way for her to rise to the top and seem like the best actress. Sometimes I wonder if one of the reasons he props those other girls up so much is just to make Alia look better.

Oops, you're right, I misread and assumed you meant Deepika in Jawaan. I am not sure if her role in Pathaan was well enough received for her to get a nomination since critically she didn't get many accolades but between the film's overwhelming success and her own popularity, I would not be shocked if she did get a nomination. I can even see her getting dual nominations, one for Lead Actress for Pathaan and Best Supporting Actress for Jawaan. Her Jawaan role was better received so if she did get both nominations, I think she'd win for the latter.

And you are right that Mrs. Chatterjee was actually a box office hit even if reception was slightly more mixed compared to Hichki. I wonder if Adi Chopra puts a lot of effort in campaigning for Rani's recent nominations or if he focuses on promoting other YRJ nominated performances instead.

I never made that connection before, but yes, I can see the comparison. Both scenes can co-exist as Shabana and Aishwarya are two very different types of actresses and both movies are very different as well. As you said Arth is an autobiographical movie and very realistic whereas Kuch Naa Kaho is a romantic comedy and more filmi.

What caught my attention was Arbaaz playing her husbandsmiley37 ( kind of alternate reality)

Rest it's all crap. People take decisions based on their vested interests.

On Aish, I haven't found any roles of hers' that can be termed empowering. She has mostly played meek tragic roles.

I can see Rani getting a nomination for Mrs Chatterjee. But not sure if she could win.

Also, I made a typo when I said that Mrs Chatterjee was successful at the BO. It actually was not very successful, unlike other Rani films like Hichki and Mardaani series.

Hichki really was very successful at the BO and even outside India. Not to mention Hichki was a better film than Mrs Chatterjee with better story, acting, casting, music, direction and re-watch value. Yet, Filmfare failed to recognize Rani and the film.

Regarding Deepika, I forgot about Best Supporting Actress category. I can totally see her getting nominated this year, and maybe even winning like you said.

What do you think about Best Actor, though? I feel this is SRK´s year. He has really created history this year with his "comeback".

I've taken it for granted that Rani would win the Filmfare but I have to remind myself that I assumed that about Hichki that she would win that in a heartbeat and was proven quite wrong, so I should lower my expectations.

I remember Hichki was a success but I thought Mrs. Chatterjee was also a success, and a bigger one? I don't remember the box office stats now but I remember seeing articles that Mrs. Chatterjee was doing very well in theaters and getting an extended theater run specifically because it was doing so well. However, Hichki was also a pre-COVID movie so I guess it would make sense that Mrs. Chatterjee might have been hailed a success based on post-COVID metrics and expectations.

I liked both Hichki and Mrs. Chatterjee. I think Hichcki is more rewatchable but that's also because the subject matter is easier to digest and less tragic. I honestly did think Rani would win that year for Hichki but I was wrong then, so history could repeat itself here for Mrs. Chatterjee. I do think she is overdue another award.

Deepika's role in Jawaan seems so universally loved that everywhere I go online, I keep seeing people say she stole the whole movie and there are people who think she deserves the Best Actress nomination rather than Best Supporting Actress. We'll see what happens but I think her screentime wasn't enouhg for her Jawaan role to be nominated for Best Actress.

I feel like SRK's had such a major comeback this year that it would be hard to deny him. Also he hasn't won since My Name is Khan so it's been a very long time since he's been a Filmfare winner and there could be a feeling that he is overdue now. It also helps that his competition is not too strong. I'm more curious as to which of his movies he will get nominations for and I could see him getting dual nominations this year. We'll have to wait and see how Dunki is received critically and commercially.

If SRK and Rani both won Filmfare Awards this year, it would feel quite nostalgic. SRK winning could also boost Deepika's chances. I would rather not see Alia as a winner alongside him.

I'm not sure the timing of when Kuch Naa Kaho was filmed so I'm curious if this was after the Chalte Chalte incident considering she seemed fine working with Arbaaz Khan.

I don't know if you would consider Taal to be a meek, tragic role but she definitely was not that in Dhoom 2 or Jazbaa.
