But then again, I think this is the point you are making, just because you are a biological parent doesn't mean you can do anything you want and still get the child. I'm sure in very extreme cases, they can lose their parental rights.
The character of Maaya seems to be a reflection of the writers' confused mind - and her plotting and scheming to get Anuj and now emotionally blackmailing Choti and then taking her away without informing...so many questionable things this character has done. The question remains whether all this can be established in court with sufficient evidence in such a way that it can be proved she is ineligible as a mother to Choti. (I don't know enough to comment whether she actually is or not.)
But if I'm thinking in this perspective, I also have to add that the way Anuj and Anupama has been behaving towards Maya is also very questionable.
In the context of the show, which seems to have only bad options, I feel like the least bad option is the orphanage itself! Those people might just have more genuine concern towards her than either of these families.
