I loved that song with Karishma and Saif imitating and poking fun at all the love birds in the house too. 😆

That song is my absolute favourite. I remember dying from happiness when the Prem and Preeti segment came up. 😆

My fav prem and preeti moment is the one where tabu leaves them alone in the room and shuts the door and u see a glimpse of preeti all shy and prem just staring gleefully at her 😂😂😂…and there’s thjs seductive saxophone playing in the background 😂😂😂

I noticed that scene when I rewatched the film. The seductive saxophone + Prem’s expressions had me scandalised. They probably sniffed each other’s neck. 😆

Another favourite scene is at 2:20 when Preeti is forced to dance and they drag Prem to watch her. BW doesn’t make these cute scenes anymore. Romance is now all about hooking up and saying fuck at least 50 times. Old romantic movies reminds me of those cute crushing days when your crush would stare at you with a smile on their face. Attraction was subtle but more meaningful.

I agree

There is no butterflies in the stomach anymore

One of the main reasons bollywood is underperforming imo, is it dosent go back to family and romance genre like this one

Granted u don’t need to make it as cheesy but films abt families with a dose of romance in there always sell imo…and it is bollywoods forte

Thar

For me, Thar vacillated between being a rustic western action flick and a sluggish snoozefest. The cinematography is stunning. There are a few Sheriff vs outlaws action sequences. There are moments when the gruesome crimes grip you and you wonder how the mystery will unfold. But in between the movie slows down. You lose focus and wonder why people are doing the things they do. I know the makers intentionally made it atmospheric and many loved this aspect, but I wanted more action and thrills than the atmosphere.

But kudos to Anil Kapoor. He is picking interesting roles lately, and Inspector Surekha Singh is an intriguing one. He plays an aging cop who has spent his entire lackluster career in a sleepy border town where nothing happens. He craves action, something to add significance to his career, and ultimately ends up with something more than he bargained for. Harshvardhan Kapoor and Fatima Sana Shaikh play their respective roles well. There could easily have been histrionics and drama, but they play their parts with subtlety.

Darlings

Domestic violence is a dark and somber subject. So I was pleasantly surprised to see a dark comedy about domestic violence that actually works. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

Badru and Hamza are a love match. The starry-eyed couple date and fall in love before marrying. But all is not well in paradise. Hamza is an alcoholic and abusive man. He frequently violently beats Badru and then love bombs her with apologies. The smitten Badru accepts these transgressions as a part of marriage. Through her innocent eyes, you see why some women struggle so much to leave abusive partners. You feel sorry for her desperation to woo and calm her violent husband.

Eventually, Badru has had enough. She's pushed beyond the brink and decides to take revenge. Her supportive mother and a smitten neighbor help her in the process. But they are all so inept and unprepared that it leads to a bumbling comedy of errors. Alia Bhatt as always is incredible as Badru. Her desperation and heartbreak are gutwrenching. But this isn't an Alia show.

Darlings works because of its ensemble cast. Vijay Verma is charming as Hamza. He so smoothly transitions from a loving caring husband to a violent monster and back again. Shefali Shah as Badru's unhinged mother is perhaps the most delightful character. And then there is Roshan Matthew as Zulfi whose one-sided affections get him caught in the caper. Even the supporting characters get to shine in scenes when they are present.

Some people seem to be erroneously complaining that Darlings glorifies domestic violence. Instead, it condemns it and makes a case against it. And while Badru turning the tables may seem unpalatable to some, if you watch the movie - you will get it. If not root for her, you will at least sympathize with the circumstances that lead her to it. But I wonder - if we can cheer men taking the law into their own hands in revenge dramas, why is it so hard to cheer on a woman who exacts revenge?

Sardar Udham- I sat down to watch this movie yesterday, and oh my god, this one is so brilliantly made, why isn't it getting more mainstream attention?

The screenplay is captivating, but what unnerved me was the last hour or so, when they showed flashback scenes of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, which was so nuanced yet so intense.

I appreciate how the film doesn't force feelings of patriotism or anything else on viewers, as some films do, instead conveys its messages subtly.

Vicky was convincing, and I'm glad the actors playing British officers were authentic.

Also happy that they didn't force any song number in the duration of the story.

Quite exquisitely made film 👏, definitely appropriate for international audience. I'd be surprised if this film does n't receive adequate awards and recognition.

Heartstopper (Netflix)

How is this show not being talked about or making waves? Omg. Literally the cutest and gayest love story. For the first time a Netflix show has leads that actually look like school kids. The friendship, first love and representation was spot on.

4/5
