Chapter 19

Abhimanyu walked to meet the family and inform them of what he found in the reports. His patient’s only chance of survival was a heart transplant. This was obviously something very hard for the families to hear and Abhimanyu always tried to be careful in how he delivered the news. Except there was one problem. He could not stop grinning. He came back to the hospital after meeting Akshu few hours back and since then he kept replaying everything that happened in his mind.

Akshu leaning over and placing a light kiss on his lips. Him leaning over and kissing her back…at first slowly but then as Akshu copied his movements, he started to kiss her more passionately only stopping because they were both out of breath. Akshu looking away trying not to blush. Doctor Saab, don’t you have to go back to work? He did yet he wanted to stay in that moment forever.

Abhi touched his lips. He could still feel the softness of Akshu’s lips on his. He tried to stop smiling like an idiot and went to see his patient.

“Bro, why are you smiling at your plate?” Neil asked Abhimanyu at dinner that night.

“I…I..I’m happy Maa made my favorite food, okay?” Control yourself, Abhimanyu.

“Abhi tume kabse gathe ki sabzi pasand hai?” Manjiri asked him suspiciously. “Aur tumhari plate mein toh kuch nahi hai.”

Abhimanyu quickly put food on his plate and started to eat. Within a few seconds, he was back at the lake with Akshu next to him. The sunlight hitting Akshu’s face, her trying to control her long tresses as always…Akshu looking at him and smiling…leaning in for another kiss. He could still taste her strawberry flavored chapstick that she had on…

“Bro! Why are you eating that mirchi?” Neil said loudly breaking Abhimanyu away from his thoughts.

“What? Oh umm…yeh bohat achi umm mirchi..*cough* pani…*cough* doh…” Abhimanyu quickly gulped the water down. Akshu, you will be the end of me.

As he sat in his cabin the next morning, Abhimanyu hoped Akshu will ask him to meet her at lunch again. Just then he heard a knock. Mr. Mehra’s appointment.

“Come-in.” He said without looking up. He heard the door open.

“Good morning.”

Abhimanyu looked up and jumped from his seat. “Akshu?? Tum yahan? What are you doing here?” He said walking up to her.

“Umm I work here? Remember?” Akshu said raising her eyebrow.

“I thought…come here.” He pulled her into a hug. “I’m so happy you are back to work. But are you sure you are okay to come back?”

Akshu looked up to him not breaking the hug. “Haan? I was not coming because I was trying to avoid a certain doctor but now…..” She grinned at him.

“Acha?” He placed a kiss on her forehead smiling.

“Ok. I only came to say hello. Time for work now.” Akshu tried to walk away.

Abhimanyu pulled her back and wrapped his arms around her. “There’s so many other things we can do that doesn’t have to be work, you know?” He kissed her cheek as she pushed him away and ran to the door.

“Doctor Saab, stop looking for excuses to get off work! Your patients are waiting for you.” She said laughing. She noticed the Ludo game on his desk. “Game at lunch?”

“For sure. I been practicing.”

“Right! Get ready to lose to me again.” She said as she left.

“I’ve already lost everything to you.” Abhimanyu smiled as he tried to focus on his work.

“You really can’t leave me in peace, can you??”

Abhi heard Aarohi screaming from the cafeteria. Now what? He rushed there to find Aarohi facing Akshu. Her anger was visible all over her face. Akshu was standing there with her hands tightly holding the side of her dress. Abhi could tell she was trying to control her anxiety.

“Aaru, yahan scene mat banao. We will talk at home.” Abhi heard Akshu say softly.

“Home? Where you have brainwashed everyone to become your lawyers? Jahan sab apni pyaaaari masoooom Akshu ke isharon pe nachte hain? Woh ghar?” Aarohi screamed her.

“Aaru…tum yeh kya…keh rahi ho? Bas karo.” Akshu’s voice was shaking.

“Tum chali kyun nahi jahti? Yahan se, mere hospital se, mere ghar se, meri Zindagi se…iss duniya se! Meri maa ko toh maar diya! Ab khud Kyun nahi mart…”

“BAS DR. AAROHI. If you say another word…” Abhimanyu went and stood between the two sisters. In his entire life, he had never been this angry, this furious before. “How. Dare. You? How. Dare. You. Say. Anything. To. My. Akshu?”

“Abhi…please don’t.” Akshu said in barely a whisper holding his arm. He could see her shaking from the corner of his eye. He took a deep breath.

“Dr. Aarohi, please go to my cabin right now.” He tried to control his anger not wanting to upset Akshu further.

“No.” Aarohi said.

“Excuse me?”

“I said no. Of course you will take Akshara’s side. Akshara’s the one sleeping with you so she must get some benefits from it, right?”

“AAROHI!” Akshu went up to her and slapped her. “Bas!”

Aarohi looked at her in shock.

“Dr. Aarohi, you are dismissed. Please leave from here.” Dr. Mahima’s voice came from behind them. She stood at the doorway, livid. “Dr. Abhimanyu, please take Akshara to your cabin right now. Everyone else, back to work.”

“Chalo, Akshu.” Abhimanyu said taking Akshu’s hand who was now shaking uncontrollably. Tears were streaming from her face and she stood there stunned at what she just done.

“Akshu? Chalo, meri jaan.” Abhimanyu gently pulled her hand leading her to his cabin.

Aarohi ko toh baad mein dekh loonga.

In Abhi’s cabin, Akshu sat on the couch shaking and crying. Abhi went and sat next to her, hugging her. “Akshu? It’s okay, jaan. You are okay.”

“Abhi? How can she say that about me? I’m her sister!” Akshu sobbed.

“Akshu, you have to stop taking her words to heart. Aarohi is a very insecure and selfish person. She doesn’t deserve you.”

Akshu looked up to Abhi. “She’s my sister, Abhi.”

“And you are her sister. If she has no respect for that relationship, why should you? Akshu, listen. Nobody in this world is worth ruining your peace of mind for. If she had any concern for you, she would have not gone out of her way to cause you pain. She’s not worth it, my love.”

Akshu sobbed harder and hugged Abhimanyu.

He would deal with Aarohi later. He will make sure that Aarohi never came near Akshu again. That she never caused Akshu any more pain. But for now he had to make sure his Akshu was okay.

Doctor hai! Ladki se izzat se baat karta hai! Uske nakhre bhi jhelta hai aur use sambhalta bhi hai! Uske khayalon mein khoya rehta hai! Uski har choti cheez uske liye important hai!

Shaadi ki biodata mein yeh sab hona chahiye! 🤣

The entire Abhimanyu cooking his khayalon ka pulao was splendid! It was just too good!

What is Arohi consuming these days? Two cups of delusion and badtameezi, morning and night! Stupid woman! Doesn’t matter if Akshara is her sister or not! She cannot behave with a colleague like that! That is harassment! She should be put on probation or suspension effective immediately!

I hope Mahima takes some action against her behaviour!
