Being a waiter or someone's assistant is as respectful as any job. But yahan baat -

a) Sarla gundi ki assistant hone ka Hain. Serving a bully is not respectful. Tolerating such crap is a violence on self respect.

b) being a waitress and that also at your lovers engagement , takes a lot of courage. Since Ishqi has already been taunted so much for her status and even after a leap , instead of progress in career she regressed. the negative track is what disrespectful to such a beloved character, Not her being a waiter.

The FL who had dropped out of graduation had an MBA degree later. Lol. They didn't even bother about timeline. 🤣

Actually there are inconsistencies in the show and perhaps it’s because covid lockdowns etc. My confusion is below and I mean no disrespect when I bring up “hi-fi” English - just my curiosity.

1. Ishqi is not shown to be so educated but she got a job as marketing manager... or maybe she is educated just that English is not her forte - which is ok as it might not be a prerequisite for her job?!

2. Maybe Ishqi is working as waitress to further her Education so she can pay for her better career

3. Nothing wrong in being a waitress or any job really, but here I think we as viewers want her to be independent and have her own career path - to be financially independent and basically prove all that has been said about her wrong.

Actually Ishqi's issue with "high fi" English may be due to her "Hindi medium school" life (That's what I think). Malhotras and Mayank studied in English medium which obviously Ishqi couldn't afford. She seems educated (At least graduated) considering the way she talks about equality and many stuffs. Exactly it's not about the job, it's about where and under whom she is working. The way they highlights working women... Ishqi ko aisa kuch Dena tha as profession Ki it looks like her struggle is real between house and office. That's my point.

The waitress thing could also be for extra cash. Think of the Mausa-Mausi angle. The Ahaan-Mayank house deposit is probably gone ... and maybe that is what AVM did to “tabah” Ishqi.
Perhaps Ishqi finally saved or is saving money to get her own place and she’s working odd jobs on weekends to accomplish that. She is still marketing manager on weekdays and this in evening / weekend.

I totally forgot about Zoya. Of course she was the only one who was not in dire need of money to support herself and that makes perfect sense that she had education but didn't need to use it for earning a living. 😉

All her other female leads are from lower middle class, without proper education and in need of money to support themselves, either orphans or the family doesn't want to help them. Same old formula and all her such female leads end up taking up a job that involves wedding planning, event planning or cooking.

But all her female leads are exceptional when it comes to detective work though. With education or without. They know how technology works very well and they know almost everything there is to know. I sometimes wonder how these things work.

I’m just hoping this will turn out to be a good surprise for us. Perhaps the toxic ppl will think how she’s all poor and destroyed her life by rejecting Mayank and now has to serve tables ... but it could be just a one off and she turns out to be more accomplished lol. It will be the best slap on their faces.
