You’re comparing apples and pears. What proportion of Bollywood movies can be attributed to Netflix and Disney? What do you think changed so miraculously in 20 years that the mafia/gangsters disappeared completely? There are very few things done legally in India. That’s a fact. Even the most innocent are not spared. From shop owners to Navy officers. There’s always someone in the chain that needs bribing/some incentive to get your work done.
Almost every mainstream film is backed or co partnered by a corporate, not necessarily Netflix/Amazon. Pick up any film- big or small- from Bareilly Ki Barfi to a Dil Bechaara and you will have your answer.
If you think a 20th century Fox, a Viacom or Reliance Entertainment (the big daddy of our country) is going to wet its hands with the underworld, you would be very mistaken. These are not the days of Gulshan Kumar, Bharat Shah and Nadiadwala running Bollywood and starlets' lives like it's their backyard.
Sorry, but calling Bollywood "mafia" in today's age is just a fantasy propagated to show that it's anti India. It doesnt work that way-. And yes, I have read everything from Ajit Doval our RAW chief's public interviews about Dawood's weakened state to S Hussain Zaidi's amazing research on this regarding the anti terror force- you are absolutely right that underworld laundered its money in films going back to the time of Haji Mastan in the 70s- but it is just not a powerful enough force to do so anymore. This is well documented. Even if the small fry films are then instead of blind and defamatory insinuations, the authorities should go after their mark with evidence (like they have done in the case of Abu Salem/Monica Bedi etc) But it's still a pretty weak reason to boycott an entire industry which is made up of many, many ordinary law abiding citizens who love their jobs.
