Hey Anam, Bucky(Ru) here!

Thanks to Diya for directing me to land on this beautiful thread!👍🏼

A huge book lover, book dragon, tsundoku here! And it's such a lovely feeling to see follow book nerds here! Finally a place where we won't look cray for owning two large bookshelves and share the warmth that comes along with being in a book's proximity❤️

I love collecting books. Earlier I used to read at least a book a week but now owing to college and stuff it has deteriorated quite alarmingly. I still buy them, on sales and love arranging my bookshelf

Been through all, from carrying another book on a trip just in case the first one is done reading to having read novels discreetly under my school desks during a lecture😆

Looking forward to the activity👍🏼

P.S I can see so many familiar names here....Diya, Brit, GR, Hinna! Lovely to see you guys! Perhaps everyone from team GR is a Hermione😉

1. How many books do you usually read at a time?

These days its 2😆 One fiction and one non fiction :D

I attempt to read 2 as well, trying to balance fiction and non fiction, doesn’t always happen.
I’m re reading Harry Potter as of now besides whatever other book I’m reading 😛

2. Is there anyone in your family you get your reading habit from?

My dad used to love reading when he was my age and my brother too

I got the habit from my mom.

3. Have you girls watched Gilmore Girls? One of the main characters, Rory is obsessed with books and there are over 300 books referenced in that show.

Nope ive heard of it but no idea what its about

Gilmore Girls is mainly about a mother-daughter relationship who are more like friends than mother daughter. It’s a great show with amazing dialogues and characters. The show is worth watching, at least the first 3 seasons of it are worth watching.

I have tried to read HP many times but gave up😆

i am not really into English shows, id rather read the book instead😛

Oh trust me there is no judgment here when it comes to being more obsessed with collecting books than reading them.

Book lovers have so many bookish traits in common. What others might see as a “bit off” or weird just seems so normal when you mention it to other book lovers.

Looking forward to the activity👍🏼

Welcome to our book club Bucky 🤗 Hope you have a good time here. Thanks Diya for directing Bucky this way 😊

I got started with Where the Crawdads Sing and I am about 50 pages in. The book goes back and forth between 1952 and 1969 and follows the journey of this little girl Kya who is 6 years old in 1952. The book is extremely descriptive and gives you a vivid picture of Kya’s surroundings. It’s too early to judge but it’s good so far.

I loathe detailed descriptions. Im hesitant to start reading this.

I’m guilty of owning a whole lot of books of which I’ve read only 1/5th of them. One of the reasons why I still have many unread books is because I keep giving away the books I’ve read (which I won’t read again) to a bookstore (that keeps pre loved and new books) and I buy new books and some used books in exchange.

I can never manage to give my books up. I've tried and failed to do that, even when your way makes so much more sense. Even if someone asks for a book to read, I can't part with it without tons of instructions to take care of it. They must think I'm crazy. 😆

I do that too. But I do purchase other books as well. At the moment, I'm not buying any physical books though, because I'm in a classics-reading phase and I can easily find those online.

Are you comfortable dnfing a book?

What time of day do you typically read/do you prefer to read?

Till last year, I struggled a lot putting down books that I don't enjoy. I used to feel guilty at random times thinking about that book which I didn't give a fair chance or not to say about the weird obsession I had to complete every single series I ever started even if I hated the first book. I am better at it now. I even dnfed two books last year and didn't really think about going back to them.

I still struggle with DNFing a book. I also find the first 30-50 pages of almost every book boring, so I feel like I should give books a fair chance too. That usually means, I read the complete book, no matter how long that takes. There's a book (Emma) that I started in the beginning of the last year and I'm still not halfway through. But I haven't DNFed it. I still read a few pages sometimes. But, that's just in case of fiction. I don't feel guilty at all for putting down non-fiction, esp biographies. Same with series too, but only if I didn't like the first book in the series. If I'm already through half the books in a particular series, my mind will keep getting back to the story if I give up on it. So, I finish it even if I have to struggle through it.

I read whenever I get the time. I don't really have a fixed time but I try to find some hour of the day when no one is going to disturb me. It's difficult.

There have been times when my parents ask me to take a break from studying and my go-to method to relax is to read a book. I don't think many people consider reading a 'relaxing activity'. 😆

Diya, I wish I had your kind of discipline to finish the books I have and only then buy more.

But in case of ebooks, I buy a lot of books at a time, and they keep accumulating. All thanks to Amazon Classics (free kindle books)

My collection of unread ebooks on my e-reader is way above 300 and I don’t know where to start.

It's difficult to keep up with this discipline. It's so tempting to just buy those lovely books I find on Amazon. So, I do virtual shopping by adding them to my cart but not actually buying them. I can literally spend hours browsing books on Amazon. It also helps that don't have any bookstore near my home.

Omg, that's a huge number. I usually alternate the genres I read. So, if currently I'm reading a mystery novel, the next is probably going to be fantasy or romance or mythology. Like, currently I'm reading The Diary of a Young Girl, and the next book I'll read is either The Valley of Fear or Defending Jacob.
