So, I thought I’ll ask you’ll a few random book related questions. Others, please feel free to ask whatever book related questions you might have as well.

1. How do you’ll consume books....physical book, ePub or as audiobooks? epub mostly

All the physical copies that I have are from book fairs

2. Do you consider listening to audiobooks as reading? Yes

3. Do you own a huge collection of books out of which many are unread but you still keep buying more books? It’s an issue with me so I wanted to know if anyone here is in the same boat.

I have a weird fear that I wont touch my old books again if I get something new so I make it a point to read all the books that I have first.

1--I prefer to read with a physical copy as I take extensive notes. I like to add my thoughts if a paragraph or line hits me hard. However, I use e-books and audiobooks too. Especially if I'm picking up a new author.

2--Yes I do. Audiobooks are the best during traveling. I also use audiobooks simultaneously with the physical copy, especially when the book is too wordy.

3--I have a notorious habit of buying books everytime I have money to spare. Quite a lot of them are sadly unread. However having them makes me really happy 😆And I like to support the authors as much as I can. So yeah, I'm very much on the same boat with you Anam.

Does anyone else take notes in their books? Or do you guys consider writing on the book a sacrilege? Also, what do you guys prefer-- Hardcover or Paperbacks?

Mostly ePubs/PDFs and physical books. I have never bought an audiobook, but I have used the read-aloud feature on Google Books a few times. I like physical books better though.

2. Do you consider listening to audiobooks as reading?

Yes. Any way of consuming books is reading for me.

3. Do you own a huge collection of books out of which many are unread but you still keep buying more books? It’s an issue with me so I wanted to know if anyone here is in the same boat.

Not in case of physical books. I read the ones I have before I buy another set. Because I often buy many books together.

But in case of ebooks, I buy a lot of books at a time, and they keep accumulating. All thanks to Amazon Classics (free kindle books)

Thanks for your answers, girls 😊

All three ways, actually. I love the feel of a paperback so I buy a lot of them. I own a Kindle so most of my contemporary reads which I might not revisit again, I read on the Kindle. I listen to audiobooks when I am doing chores. I mostly use audiobooks for reading non fiction and books which I want to read but am not motivated to do (genres I don’t usually read, classics, etc).

2. Do you consider listening to audiobooks as reading?

I’m a little of a purist that way, I consider reading a physical copy or ePub as reading. Audiobooks I consider as listening. That has changed a bit in recent times but I still feel a bit guilty if I have read books using audiobooks over what I consider “actual reading”.

3. Do you own a huge collection of books out of which many are unread but you still keep buying more books? It’s an issue with me so I wanted to know if anyone here is in the same boat.

I’m guilty of owning a whole lot of books of which I’ve read only 1/5th of them. One of the reasons why I still have many unread books is because I keep giving away the books I’ve read (which I won’t read again) to a bookstore (that keeps pre loved and new books) and I buy new books and some used books in exchange.

I prefer physical books but I mostly listen to audiobooks and use my e-reader. I only purchase books that I have read and loved or if I am buying new releases it's an author I have loved most works from.

You are not alone, Anam. I too have a huge stack of physical tbr which only seems to be growing. Most of them are either classics, dense fantasies or philosophical books; all of them I am intimidated by. I am trying to at least read one book a month from that stack. 😆

Yes, 100%. I consider audiobooks as reading. Most of my reading gets done through audio.

@Aparna: I have tried annotating books in the past but I have figured out that I am not patient enough for them. I only annotate books I am required to read now. Nowadays, I just update my goodreads if I have any specific thought. I love how hardbacks look on my shelves but my vote goes for paperbacks. I especially love used books. Something about it just makes me happy.

Haha, yes that is exactly what I do. I listen to the audiobook while I am reading it. Not only does it helps me get through books which are too wordy but also helps me to stay focused.

I wish I was one of those people who could take notes. Also, since I mostly read thrillers there isn’t really any note taking required.

I tend to do that for classics otherwise they get a bit too tedious to read.

Exactly the reason I buy books, but I also end up feeling really guilty when I see them lying unread on my shelves for ages.

Like I said, I really wish I was one of those people who could write and take notes in the books they read but I have this weird obsession of keeping my books in the best condition possible.
Off late I have started putting sticky notes in my books and writing on them when some thought pops up. I always have the luxury of removing the sticky notes then. If I have to make any markings in a book, I use a pencil and bracket it very lightly ( I’ve done it only for 2 books so far 😆)
Also, I don’t read very many intelligent books 😆that require me to mark out passages.

Also, what do you guys prefer-- Hardcover or Paperbacks?

Paperbacks; hardcovers get a little too heavy to hold for a long period of time.

I prefer Hardcover for the looks and paperbacks for reading. I mostly buy paperbacks coz they are cheaper.

I don't mind if anyone like to scribble on their own books as long as they don't do it on mine. I like my books in pristine condition. Not a scratch on them. I have books that have been read multiple times but still look like it hasn't been touched on first glance.

Okay so my questions are

Are you comfortable dnfing a book?

What time of day do you typically read/do you prefer to read?

Till last year, I struggled a lot putting down books that I don't enjoy. I used to feel guilty at random times thinking about that book which I didn't give a fair chance or not to say about the weird obsession I had to complete every single series I ever started even if I hated the first book. I am better at it now. I even dnfed two books last year and didn't really think about going back to them.

Diya, I wish I had your kind of discipline to finish the books I have and only then buy more.

But in case of ebooks, I buy a lot of books at a time, and they keep accumulating. All thanks to Amazon Classics (free kindle books)

My collection of unread ebooks on my e-reader is way above 300 and I don’t know where to start.

No, I feel very guilty if I have to DNF a book. It took me a year to finish Lolita but I managed to do it. If I haven’t managed to get back to a book even after a year, then I DNF it. There are some books that I take the help of an audiobook to finish it and then some are so pathetic, that I really can’t read a page further so in that case I DNF it. Strangely, I don’t feel so guilty if I have to DNF non fiction as compared to fiction.

What time of day do you typically read/do you prefer to read?

Mostly at nights when everyone else is sleeping and I can’t be disturbed .

I am unable to read the entire series if I didn’t like the first book.
