Thalapathy Vijay's divorce case takes a surprise turn as wife Sangeetha withdraws petition

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay's wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, has withdrawn the divorce petition she had filed earlier this year before the Chengalpattu Family Court. Following her decision, the court has officially disposed of the case, bringing the legal proceedings to an end.

According to reports, Sangeetha appeared before the court through video conference and informed Judge Sujatha that she wished to withdraw her petition. ANI reported that the judge interacted with her for around 15 minutes before accepting the request and closing the matter.

The divorce proceedings had begun in February 2026 after Sangeetha approached the family court. The hearing was later postponed to April 20, just three days before the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

As per reports, the petition had cited "infidelity" among the grounds for seeking divorce. It also reportedly stated that Vijay had "gradually withdrew emotionally" and become distant from family life. The filing further alleged that the actor frequently travelled abroad and attended public events with an unnamed actress, causing emotional distress to Sangeetha and their two children. These claims, however, were part of the petition and have not been independently verified.

Vijay and Sangeetha got married in August 1999 and have been together for nearly 27 years. They are parents to two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha.

Meanwhile, their son Jason Sanjay is preparing for his directorial debut with Sigma, featuring Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah. The film was initially expected to release on July 31 but has since been postponed.

Separately, Vijay has continued to make headlines over rumours linking him with actor Trisha Krishnan. Neither Vijay nor Trisha has commented on the speculation. Earlier this year, Trisha was seen visiting Vijay's residence on her birthday, which coincided with the announcement of the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results. On Vijay's birthday in June, she shared a photograph with her Leo co star and wrote, "To the person who makes it all worth it, HBD (sic)."

With the divorce petition now withdrawn, the legal dispute has come to a close. However, neither Vijay nor Sangeetha has publicly commented on the reasons behind the withdrawal or their current relationship status.
