1. How many books do you usually read at a time?

Multiple. I always have 3-4 books open and that' the minimum number. They're usually from different genres but not always. This happens because I start reading a book, then look at another book and feel like I'd like to reading that one too. My highest number went to 8 books at a time. 😆

2. Is there anyone in your family you get your reading habit from?

My mum. She loved reading books when she was my age. She made sure that I always had books to read from a very early age. She read me stories before bed when I was little and then made me read stories to her when I could read. It's also because of her that I don't stick to one type of book or a single author (although I do love mystery/thriller more than anything). She always insisted (and still does) that I read books from every genre, language, author and time.

3. Have you girls watched Gilmore Girls? One of the main characters, Rory is obsessed with books and there are over 300 books referenced in that show.

No, but it looks interesting. And more more than anything, I'd like to get my hands on that book list. 😛

@Unique.Sheep:

I usually find historical books boring but lets see if the story is good

Historical fiction is a genre I’ve kept away from for the very same reason that you mentioned. Fantasy and mythology are other genres that I have not read much of and have not really been inclined to read.
It was due to my reluctance to read certain genres that I thought a book club would be a good idea for me and maybe others like me. If I saw others reading a genre I haven’t been too keen on reading, it would motivate me also to read and try out books of various genres.

@GrimReaper:

I loathe detailed descriptions. Im hesitant to start reading this.

Give it a shot. Read the first 80-100 pages and if it doesn’t appeal to you, leave it.

Btw, the book also has a murder mystery and elements of romance in it, besides being a historical fiction.

@Diya:

I can never manage to give my books up. I've tried and failed to do that, even when your way makes so much more sense. Even if someone asks for a book to read, I can't part with it without tons of instructions to take care of it. They must think I'm crazy.

I can understand your reluctance to give up books even if I find it easier than you to give them up. Same here, I also have a hundred instructions even when I give my books to my mom. Some of the instructions I give my mom -

Don’t put the book face downwards, don’t put your mug of tea on my book, don’t use my book to place and write your lists on, keep pens away from my book, etc. etc. 😆

Good to know I’m not the only crazy one 😂

Thats true. Ive only been reading romance/chick lit and thrillers/murder mystery😆

But once I start a book I have to finish it. I cant leave it midway

It's difficult to keep up with this discipline. It's so tempting to just buy those lovely books I find on Amazon. So, I do virtual shopping by adding them to my cart but not actually buying them. I can literally spend hours browsing books on Amazon. It also helps that don't have any bookstore near my home.

You really have self control. I’ve bought tons of books off Amazon in the last year and barely read one-fifth of them. Since the lockdown I’ve decided to limit my purchase of books from Amazon and support local bookstores which automatically makes it a little less convenient and more expensive to buy books. This is the only reason I haven’t gone bonkers buying books once the lockdown was lifted.

Omg, that's a huge number. I usually alternate the genres I read. So, if currently I'm reading a mystery novel, the next is probably going to be fantasy or romance or mythology. Like, currently I'm reading The Diary of a Young Girl, and the next book I'll read is either The Valley of Fear or Defending Jacob.

That’s a good variety in your TBR. It’s been difficult for me to read genres other than thrillers or mysteries.

8 books...woah!
I don’t think I’ve been able to read more than 4 books at a time. Off late I haven’t been able to focus on more than 1 book at a time. As of now it’s 2 books because I’m re reading Harry Potter.

2. Is there anyone in your family you get your reading habit from?

My mum. She loved reading books when she was my age. She made sure that I always had books to read from a very early age. My initiation into reading is pretty much like yours. Bedtime stories read by my mom and seeing her read all the time is what started off my love for reading.

I would strongly recommend the show. It’s a fun watch and the character of Rory (the daughter) is aspirational when it comes to her reading choices.
