Bigg Boss Tamil 10 opens doors to the public, introduces 'Common Man' format; premiere date out

The upcoming season of Bigg Boss Tamil is set to bring its biggest format change yet. Breaking away from its celebrity-driven template, Season 10 will feature ordinary people as contestants under the new 'Common Man' concept. Hosted by Vijay Sethupathi, the reality show will premiere on August 16 on JioHotstar and Star Vijay.

The move comes after an extensive statewide audition process that saw thousands of aspirants from across Tamil Nadu apply for a chance to enter the iconic Bigg Boss house. Contestants from varied backgrounds, including students, homemakers, professionals, entrepreneurs and content creators, participated in what has become one of the largest public casting drives in the show's history.

Thousands auditioned, only a few made the final cut

The selection process began after Vijay Sethupathi invited Tamil-speaking audiences to submit audition videos showcasing their personalities and life stories. The overwhelming response led to multiple rounds of screening, beginning with digital auditions before progressing through virtual interviews, group discussions and in-person interactions.

According to the makers, the applicant pool was gradually narrowed from hundreds of hopefuls to a final shortlist of 50 contestants. The last phase of the selection process is currently underway, with only a handful expected to secure a place inside the Bigg Boss house when the season begins.

This marks the first time the Tamil edition has opened participation to non-celebrities, offering viewers an opportunity to watch everyday individuals navigate the challenges, alliances and conflicts that define the reality show.

Former contestants return in key roles

Adding another twist to the new format, former Bigg Boss Tamil contestants Aari Arjunan, Raju Jeyamohan and Oviya have joined the final selection process as judges. Season 7 runner-up Maya Krishnan will host the audition journey, guiding viewers through the final stages before the contestants are officially revealed.

Speaking about the initiative, the former winners and contestants stressed that authenticity, resilience and individuality would matter more than popularity or carefully crafted personas. They said the aim is to identify contestants who can remain true to themselves under the pressure of the Bigg Boss house.

Premiere date announced

Bigg Boss: Common Man premieres on August 16, with new episodes streaming daily on JioHotstar. The show will also air on Star Vijay from Monday to Friday at 10 pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 5.30 pm. The season is expected to reveal its final lineup of contestants shortly before the premiere, marking a new chapter for one of Tamil television's most popular reality franchises.
