Saif-Amrita's secret wedding had even Soha And Saba in the dark; Sisters recall the shock

When Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh tied the knot in 1991, the wedding made headlines for more than one reason. While their relationship had already attracted attention because of their age difference, the marriage itself happened so unexpectedly that even Saif's younger sisters, Soha Ali Khan and Saba Pataudi, were left out of the ceremony. Years later, the sisters have shared how they first came to know about the life-changing event while they were still attending school, offering a rare glimpse into one of Bollywood's most talked-about weddings.

Soha and Saba Found Out About The Wedding While In School

During a conversation with Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi, Saba Pataudi looked back at the time Saif married Amrita Singh. She revealed that she was only 15 years old, and both she and Soha were still in school when the wedding took place.

According to Saba, once newspapers reported the marriage, their parents contacted the school and instructed the principal that the sisters should not discuss the news with anyone. Since the family was still dealing with the sudden reports, they were asked to remain quiet about the matter. Soha also remembered the moment she learnt about the wedding, revealing that it was actually her French teacher who informed her. She described the marriage as something that happened at the last minute, leaving little time for anyone to prepare.

A Wedding Planned In A Hurry

The intimate ceremony has also been recalled by celebrated designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, who were among the few people present. Speaking about the occasion, they revealed that they even signed the nikaahnama as witnesses.

They shared that Saif was determined to get married immediately, while Amrita was still taking time to make up her mind. Because everything happened so quickly, there was hardly any time for elaborate arrangements. Amrita reportedly wore whatever outfit fit her, pairing it with family jewellery inherited from her mother, while Saif chose a bandhgala for the ceremony.

The designers also remembered a light-hearted moment when a maulvi suggested Amrita's name should begin with the letter "A", prompting those present to quickly settle on "Aziza." They described the entire wedding as spontaneous, emotional and unlike any traditional celebration.

The Family Tree

Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh remained married for 13 years and welcomed two children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan, before parting ways. Saif later married Kareena Kapoor in 2012, and the couple are now parents to Taimur Ali Khan and Jeh Ali Khan. Amrita, on the other hand, has not remarried.
