Nearly six years after their widely discussed social media clash during the farmers’ protests, Kangana Ranaut has clarified that she does not share any personal hostility with singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh. Speaking while promoting her latest film, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, the actor politician addressed the long standing perception that the two have been rivals ever since their public exchange online.
In an interview with NDTV, Kangana dismissed suggestions of an ongoing feud. Explaining her position, she said, “We are not against each other. We just had contradictory opinions about a certain event.”
The statement comes at a time when both Kangana and Diljit have films running in theatres. While Kangana’s Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata released on June 12, Diljit’s Main Vaapas Aaunga also arrived in cinemas on the same day.
Reflecting further on the controversy that once dominated headlines, Kangana made it clear that the disagreement was never personal. “I've got nothing against that guy. We've never even met in life,” she said.
When asked whether she would be open to meeting Diljit in the future, Kangana indicated that she saw no issue with it. However, when questioned about the possibility of sending him a message if she enjoyed his latest film, she laughed and replied, “That's too much, na?”
The dispute between the two dates back to December 2020 during the farmers’ protests against the Centre’s farm laws. The controversy began after Kangana shared a photograph of an elderly woman at a protest site and incorrectly identified her as a participant from the Shaheen Bagh demonstrations.
Her post drew criticism after she suggested that the woman could be paid to attend protests. Diljit was among those who publicly challenged the claim. He shared information identifying the woman as Mahinder Kaur, a farmer from Punjab, and questioned the accuracy of Kangana’s statement.
The disagreement soon escalated into a highly publicised social media exchange. During the argument, Kangana referred to Diljit as a “bootlicker” and “Karan Johar’s pet,” while Diljit defended the women participating in the protests and strongly opposed the remarks.
Today, however, Kangana appears keen to move beyond that chapter, maintaining that differing views on an issue should not be mistaken for a personal rivalry.
