I think this has been mentioned multiple times, but I'll mention it again anyways 😆

The budget of a film can be recovered through multiple ways: theatrical business, music revenue, satellite revenue, etc...

Ultimately what matters when deciding the verdict of a film is if the film can recover the price at which the DISTRIBUTORS bought the film, and if the film can recover, how much beyond that the film can do!

Just as a rough example, if the distributors bought a film for 60 crore, the film would need to collect in the range of 120 crore net so that approximately half of that collection can go towards the distributor, who would then recover his/her money!
