In Real life society has a certain level of behaviour they adhere to
On the INTERNET you don't face as much of a backlash by being offensive.

So you are inundated with people who can be disgustingly racist. Hate anything from either men, women, straights, gays. etc.

You have a segment of women who are angry at men. Segment of men who are angry with women. Generalisations and stereotypes galore.

People fighting over race and religions. Who is superior and who is inferior. Superficiality increases tenfold and 'beauty is subjective' is thrown out the window. You have to look a certain way.

Incessant complaining and because people can publish more easily. Pseudo intellectuals will make articles and videos presenting their flawed opinions as fact. Most often offensive opinions.

The INTERNET is great but it seems global society has become much more intolerant.

I needed to rant a bit. Thanks.

well.. I wouldn't blame the Internet if people have become intolerant.

The hidden facet of man is just finding an expression through the medium of internet, that is all.

Recently in Florida, a group of teenagers aged 14-16 filmed a man drowning and posted it in social media

They were making fun of him, never tried to help him, never even called 911

We hear this kind of incidents often nowadays involving teenagers...

That's very scary, SM seems to bring out the monsters in teenagers

Quite a few cases of people committing suicide because of online bullying.

Makes me think if suicide because of bullying was less frequent before the internet.

the internet is what YOU make of it..the choice is always yours what you are watching and feeding into. There are educational resources out there too, if you choose to watch and feed into.
Have you seen Tim Cook's commencement speech? it is absolutely worth a watch

some of the transcript:

Whatever you do in your life, and whatever we do at Apple, we must infuse it with the humanity that each of us is born with. That responsibility is immense, but so is the opportunity. I'm optimistic because I believe in your generation, your passion, your journey to serve humanity. We are all counting on you. There is so much out there conspiring to make you cynical. The internet has enabled so much and empowered so many, but it can also be a place where basic rules of decency are suspended and pettiness and negativity thrive.

Don't let that noise knock you off course. Don't get caught up in the trivial aspects of life. Don't listen to trolls and for God's sake don't become one. Measure your impact in humanity not in the likes, but the lives you touch; not in popularity, but in the people you serve. I found that my life got bigger when I stopped carrying about what other people thought about me. You will find yours will too. Stay focused on what really matters. There will be times when your resolve to serve humanity will be tested. Be prepared. People will try to convince you that you should keep your empathy out of your career. Don't accept this false premise.

IRL I find the people around me to be much more tolerant, also because I've never faced any backlash from relatives or family as such. Whether it's about my religious or political sentiments or my rage against pseudo feminists people don't seem to argue with me. Even random people I meet. However, omg on the internet everyone is so effing defensive, downright rude if you don't agree with their opinions. The weirdest part is you may not even say anything that's offensive, but it's like people make it a point to be the offended ones.
The kind of harmless words people get offended over and call you shit for that, jeez they need some chill in life or need to get off the internet.
I would tell you an incident on here as an example but nvm.
