I am enticed to write another ff based on Chandini,but events are going to take place in our times.
I have to admit that I have borrowed idea of writing contemporary story based on Chandini from my dear friend Shailu and Banu... So I have bought my own Idea to write ff..

Chapter 1- The Journey Begins


Place Srirangam ,Tiruchy Tamil Nadu
Time 6:00 am

Srirangam is an island and a part of the city of Tiruchy.Srirangam is bounded by Cauvery on one side, and the Kollidam river on the other side. Srirangam is home to a significant population of Srivaishnavites (followers o Lord Vishnu). Srirangam is famous for its Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple and the whole place revolves around the temple..

Morning was like any other day with streets bustling with activities by pilgrims and Traders. The Town of Srirangam has 4 mada veedhis(Streets surrounding the Temple in all direction). In one street we can see a house which is overlooking Temple's eastern gate.The house comprises a stone bench in the verandah a nice way of receiving guests. Then one can enter the drawing room from inside . and an open courtyard in the middle of the house.It is well-ventilated with wooden beams or terracotta tiles for the ceiling and wooden staircase.Windows are aesthetically placed to get the natural Moon light(particularly on a full moon day) and equally the dawn of sun rise light .. The big armed easy chair , (Swing known as Oonjal) , the side Benches ,wooden chests, the cross bar to the wooden door,adds a grandeur to the room. The jasmine /champanki creepers /konrai poo surrounding the house will all add pleasant aura to the cool natural air.

In such a setup Mr Padmanabh was sitting in his armchair and was taking sips of Filter coffee .His eyes was fixed on The Hindu paper. Inside in a tape recorder MS SUbbulakshmi was singing Suprabhatam on Lord Balaji.Mr Padmanabh is working in a Central govt Tax department. He is known for his honesty and Hardworking. His Family Consists of Akhila-His wife, Dhanya his eldest daughter ,married and settled in Pune . She and her husband are software engineers. They have a son aged 3 years .Nandini is his second daughter who holds degree in mba(finance) . Very soon she is going to join a Top Notch firm called Matrix Solutions situated in New Delhi. Sridhar his youngest Son who is an easy going lad .He is just finished his 10th std and is about to join 11th std .Apart from them PADMANABH also takes care of his Mother Saraswathi. Who is very young at heart and rational in her approach.

Padmanabhan called his wife Akhila. "Akhila.. Is Nandini still sleeping.. She has to go to Delhi today evening. Why she is not getting her self ready?Where Is Sridhar..Is he still sleeping? I dont know .. Even Kumbakarna will loose to him in sleeping contest. Padmanabh was very angry.

Akhila tried to deal with the situation nonchalantly,since its nothing new in their house. Everyday ,She has to make her children Nandini and Sridhar to getup from sleep. Its was an tiresome process.

"What to do.. Your daughter and Son are both useless. Daily they are watching some Hindi Serial called Chandra Nandini in Star plus. Nandini is virtually ogling the hero...and when asked says she is learning Hindi I dont know his name ... some raja ...
"Raja illa ma Rajat Tokas" Came reply from her Mother inlaw

"Look. at your Mother.. She should visit Temple for her age ,but she speaks about that hero.. And they always say Hamam Hamam.. When asked they say he uses Hamam soap... Is this detail important for me...

Saraswathi"Akhila... Leave it... Its not soap"

Akhila did not leave "your mother too frequently asks about the hero. If they see me ,your daughter and Mother stop speaking. This Sridhar he too likes that foreign girl..Whats her name... some Hena ,..

Saraswathi "Akhila.her name is Helena. Padmanabh did you pay wifi bill. I can survive without rice but not without Wifi... Akhila dont take serious ma...Just for fun,... I am doing.. If you want you can also join us.. In fact I have seen you watching same serial in Hotstar of your tAB.

Akhila murmured" They can see.. But not me..."

"Look .. nandini's appa(dad).. I dont see such serials.. Infact I opened tab to see Seethaiyim Raman(Tamil version of Siya ke Ram).but unfortunately I opened Chandra nandini .Is that a Sin

Padmanabh" Akhila ...and Amma ... Leave it... " Padmanabh curiously casted his look on his mother and asked .. Amma,.. Is that serial so nice,.which you see in hindi Is that based on History."..

Saraswathi " They claim it to be historical.but in reality its no way near history.Who cares pa... We see only actors.. Adhuleyum Rajat ennama act panran... apppa appa...(Look how nicely Rajat acts).He is very gifted and Shwetha also doing good.hamam scene la...

Akhila " What Amma.. scene.. all these days you people told me its soap"

Saraswathi caught in her own web of words. Intentionally she tried to change the argument . Saraswathi Pointing her hand at Her son " Narayana narayana Enna Padmanabh.have you made up your mind .Are you serious? Why you want to send her to Delhi... It a new place!

Padmanabh tried to fathom her fears " Amma.. They are providing accommodation..Nandini should stand on her own legs.She should learn the world. We cannot pamper her always...

Akhila too" Amma.. Nandini is good and matured girl... She will manage "

Nandini was sleeping in her bed. Her phone was giving a beep sound indicating someone has mailed her. She sleepily gets up her phone and unlocks... She opens her inbox.
"Ada Rama... 20 emails from India Forums"

So,... Nothing new,... ok. Why Chandini AT thread is sleeping. What happened to those girls...

Akhila came inside the room and got irritated with nandini
"Nandini ..." Her voice reached crescendo.
"What ma" Nandini enquired sheepishly..
"Its 6:45... You have not got ready.. What you are up to ? . "pointing her finger to her phone"One day or other I am going to throw your phone under temple Elephant.
"No amma..I was checking my mails"...
"One standard reply you give me... " irritatingly murmurred Akhila .
"Ok.. Never mind.. Today we have go to temple and by noon you should catch bus to Chennai. From there you have yo go to New Delhi.. Have you checked everything.. Did you check the documents you were supposed to carry..
"Yes Ma" Nandini was replying while she was taking her phone to get charged,
"Nandini! What is your designation?
"Amma... I am going work to under CFO of Matrix miss Helen as Senior Finance analyst"
"What Helen... "Akhila tried to pronounce her name
"She is from Greece AMma"..Nandini tried to explain
" OH ok..Nandini.. So you have to interact with all employees"
"No Amma... I have to help Miss Helen in Framing budgets. Like how many employee should we hire, and what will be their salary.I have to analysis Quarter Results.If need arises I have to address the clients too.
"What is your Salary"? Akhila asked
"Its 40 k per month " Nandini replied proudly.
"So within few months your Bank loan will be closed right" Akhila enquired .

"Yes Ma" nandini gave a short reply.
Akhila hugged her daughter ."It was just like yesterday you was born.. Now you are going to work in a Big Firm. right under the CEO ANd MD of the company..
What is name of The CEO..Nandini?
Nandini" His Name is Chandrasekhar. Gupta, a
"Chandrasekhar is he south Indian
"No Amma.. He is Chandrasekhar Gupta. One of the youngest CEo of the Country.He inherited this Company from his Father In Law VishnuGupt.
"So.. He is Ghar jamai? Akhila said
"No Amma.. Chandrasekhar was a just ordinary software engineer in the company which was just budding . Vishnu gupt recognized Chandrasekhar of his skills and shaped him. Soon the company became one of the Fortune 50 companies of India. Later Vishnugupt married off his daughter Dhara to Chandrasekhar. But their marriage did not lost long. She died in a premeditated attack originally aimed at Chandrasekhar by the enemy of Vishnugupt MahaNand. He is underworld don and shares enmity with Vishnugupt and Chandrasekar as well. . It was a Miracle that Chandra did not die . Dhara was traveling alone in the car to attend a family function on that ill fated day .He is a father of baby boy aged 11 months.
Akhila was listening to her daughter. Little does she knew,that destiny of her Daughter and that of Chandrasekhar Gupta is going to be same. Very soon.. Akhila is going to welcome Chandrasekhar as her Son I law...This fact is completely unaware to nandini and Chandra as well..

Brought in our own CN forum and yourself into the story! Clever clever Avantika! I loved the beginning very much. It looked like a common and regular scene in any South Indian household.

Actually As per my ff,this nandini is a die hard fan of Rajat tokas...
so this will come to some extent...

Chapter 2 Breaking Stereotype

Akhila listened as Nandini continue to speak" Some times Perumal (Lord Vishnu) is very cruel ... Look he gave everything to Dhara..But she could not enjoy the fruit..she died quiet early...Why its like that?

Akhila gave a melancholic grin "Nandini! Certainly this is a sorrowful tale... Edho Praptam evalo avalvau dan( What is destined to happen happens..) We cannot fight against the fate. Get ready soon...

Nandini took her bath and got herself ready in a saree for temple visit. Akhila gave her long strings of jasmine flower. "I love this amma.. " Nandini hugged her mother.

When she came down to hall,she spotted her father ,busily saying Vishnu Sahasaranama( Sloka on Vishnu).He stopped chanting and glanced nandini."Dear .. have you packed everything needed for your stay".

"Yes Appa". Padmanabh continued his chanting and after few minutes

"Nandini.. I want to say you something"

"yes Appa" nandini stood before him with rapt attention.

" Nandini you are grown girl and Matured too. I just like to give you one piece of advise . World is full of temptations . We cannot change those nor shut our eyes from them. But we can definitely make walls of our mind tall so that Nothing can deviate us from our path and goals . You have to resist all temptations and distraction and focus on your goals. All good and bad will approach you in a life.You have to be wise to take only goodness lika a Anna Pakshi(Swan).I hope you understand.

Padmanabh expected nandini to say yes.

"yes Appa.. I am there to gain experience and knowledge.I shall not indulge in any activities that will make you feel down".

Padmanabh continued his chanting.

Akhila "Amma.. You take children to temple. I have to go to courier office urgently. Your daughter in Coimbatore needs some documents. So iam going to send her it.

Nandini,Sridhar and Saraswathi went to Sri Ranganathaswamy temple. After finishing, worship all of them went to the temple pond . Nandini was aimlessly throwing stones in the pond.She tried to speak her heart to her Grandmother .

"patti(dadi)... I am quiet tensed"!

"dEAR.. even I am tensed... Did you know that Apama schemed to kill Durdhara and blame fell on Nandini. Chandra banished Nandini.."Nandini intercepted "Aiyoo,Patti... Let me say you something,till june Chandra and nandini will play hide and seek. Ipl is there till may 28..

"Oh... IPL.. Sridhar what is the score "

Sridhar instantly replied" KKr 20/0 "

Saraswathi "Very good start illa sridhar".Sridhar kkr na summa va..(KKr is a good team)

"Aiyoo Will you listen !I am very scared to go Delhi Patti" Nandini tried to bring her grandmother to her talks

"Look, Nandini.. You are qualified and matured. A girl belonging to this era should not speak such silly things.. You have to be confident. In those days.. when ladies were not allowed to continue studies ,I travelled upto 8 kms to educate myself. Just imagine in those bygone years,I took that extreme step to educate myself. You are my grand daughter,and you belong to this era..you speak such foolish things nandini... You are going to Delhi...

Saraswathi chided Nandini for her ignorance.

Sridhar too joined their conversation"pati..nandini is one paitiyam ( pagal).. Better get her married soon...Am I right Akka

Saraswathi" Oda pinni poduven rascal(I will thrash you)... Nandini for you your career is important.. All these marriage and family can wait. I was married when I was 17 and your mother married my son when she was 19. Within 1 year she gave birth to your sister. After that her world is only the kithcen. Nandini ,You have to break this stereotype just like Dhanya...She is well settled in Pune .You have to be example... listen to my words..Don't think of marriage without settling in your career.

Sridhar "Patti..I pity you.. You don't know her She will be seeing Rajat Tokas and Sharuk khan films in Delhi... You are having too much hopes on her.. Let me warn you.

Saraswathi gave small pat on his cheeks" Why Boys should have all fun".

Nandini hugged "Patti you are best".

Saraswathi " Nandini! As long as you don't brink srk or rt in your real Life..I am good else I will become another Apama.

.By 12:00

Nandini and her father started to Bus stop in a taxi.Sridhar had booked Ola taxi. Akhila Sridhar and Patti went with them till Central Bus stop in Tiruchy to give send off.

Akhila was giving her instructions to Nandini.

" nandini,don't eat junk food. Oil your hair regularly and don't use shampoo. I have packed Shikka kai powder..

Saraswathi"Amma Akhila.. She is going to work in MNC.. Not in a Bhajana madam(place where bhajans are sung).

Akhila "Amma.. Nobody is going to smell her hair in Your MNc. Every day go to nearby Ganesh temple in morning.And one important thing. "Daily call me twice .I have kept Mango pickle and Parupu podi. It will help you incase if you miss the food.. "

Nandini nodded her head .Sridhar "Amma..podum..Bus vandachu(Amma ,stop bus came). nandini saw the Volvo bus and she boarded the bus while her father was keeping her suitcase and bag in behind the bus. He was enquiring the bus conductor will the bag be safe and How is the road condition.

Sridhar"A kka.. take care"Nandini hugged her brother" Uyunga Padi(Study properly).Akhila and Saraswathi waved their hands as bus started. Akhila was rooted in her place till bus turned in the road and vanished from her sight.

Saraswathi(Akhila. delhi is not in another planet. We can always reach there in 3 hrs in a plane.. "

In just another 6 hours they got down in Chennai and by 11:00 they have boarded the train.Its all well planned and organized!!! Nandini's journey in train ,was smooth. Time flew away like a magic.
