A special MCOCA court in Mumbai on Wednesday remanded five accused in the Rohit Shetty house firing case to police custody till February 17, 2026. The accused have now been booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999.
The five were produced before the special court after their earlier period of custody ended. The Mumbai Crime Branch informed the court that provisions of MCOCA had been invoked against them, following which the matter was placed before the designated court.
Investigators had sought 15 days of further custody. However, the court granted police remand only till February 17, 2026. MCOCA is a Maharashtra law enacted to tackle organised crime and terror related activities.
During the hearing, the Crime Branch submitted that the alleged mastermind, Shubham Lonkar, intended to create fear in Mumbai. According to police, Lonkar had told the arrested men that he wanted to execute something major in the city. Officers claimed that the accused were in contact with Lonkar through a single mobile application. An amount of Rs 40,000 was reportedly transferred by Lonkar to one of the arrested individuals.
A Crime Branch official further informed the court that Lonkar had supplied three firearms to his brother, Praveen Lonkar. These weapons were later passed on to those arrested in connection with the firing outside Shetty’s residence.
The case pertains to an incident in which five rounds were allegedly fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s home in Juhu. No injuries were reported. The Crime Branch investigation revealed that the vehicle used in the incident had been brought from Pune.
Police said the car originally belonged to a Pune resident who sold it to accused Aditya Gayki for Rs 30,000 a few days before the firing. Gayki and another accused, Samarth Pomaji, allegedly parked the vehicle at a fixed location in Juhu. According to investigators, the men who transported the vehicle to Mumbai were unaware of the shooter’s identity. Police claim that Lonkar later directed the shooter to collect the vehicle and carry out the firing. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
