Chapter 3 -New Niche
Part 1

It was Sunday morning when Nandini landed in Delhi and Next morning she has to be in Matrix. It took a while for them to crossed the myriad of people in Railway station . They boarded a pre paid taxi.They had to get stranded in the traffic and after 1 hour they landed in girls Hostel named Ashoka vatika. Nandini and Padmanabh were greeted by warden. She was quiet friendly and told about rules and regulation.Her father signed the documents and gave name of his Friend Mahadevan as local Guardian. Nandini was quiet comfortable with Warden.Padmanabh was given assurance by warden of the hostel . The Hostel was very near to her office. Nandini has to share her room with a college going girl called Aditi.

Nandini entered her allocated room.The floor is pale and yet full of texture. A rug covers the floor near entrance.the wall was painted with ivory and it had a clock and calendar. Some sections of wall are hidden by posters of varying sizes mostly expressing film star Shah Ruk Khan. Shelves protrude from a wall adjacent to the mirror cum dressing table- topped by a number of knickknacks and decorative accessories . There were two single bed separated by a coffee table and two big wardrobe was firmly fixed in opposite wall. She was welcomed by a young girl who was busily working In her laptop. She was aged not more than 19 and was having boy hair cut. Her face was smiling and she was not repulsive.
She introduced " Hi,,,Yara I am Aditi Gupta"She stretched her hand
Nandini said" Iam nandini from Srirangam,Tiruchy Nandini said quiet proudly and gave a warm handshake
" we will have a good time together" Aditi embraced Nandini.
Aditi introduced her self as student of JNU university and was pursuing BA economics.By the time Nandini's father came with her buggages.Nandini introduced her father to Aditi .After customary talks,Nandini and Padmanabh got ready and took auto to go to Matrix.
As it was Sunday,he took her in ride so that she will be familiar with routes.He also took her to shopping area so that she could get some things and had lunch in South Indian cafe. They resumed their shopping after lunch and by 7 they had dinner in a local tamil hotel .

Later he dropped Her in her hostel and gave her some money" Nandini,keep this.. This is my childhood friend s number. He is a leading pediatrician in Chandini Chowk.today h is out of station else he could have dropped in to meet us! (pause) If any thing is needed you can call him..Alright.. Nandini can you manage?
"Appa,I can Always Manage.. Don't worry" She assured Padmanabh
"Language and food might be a problem. Nandini.. Just for time being. I have spoken to one my friends whose son Works in Infosys.He has promised me to refer you there. Then you can stay in Chennai ,in your attai(His Sister) house itself
Nandini"Sure ,Appa.. But till then,I need to work. If I gain experience,then I can call shots"
Padmanabh"absoulutely Nandini".with a heavy heart" Ok..I am leaving Take care..
Padmanabh left her in Hostel to catch train for Chennai.Nandini entered the room. To her surprise Aditi was busily finishing her assignment.
"College work han?'
"Yes Nandini.. tomorrow I have to submit an assignment. Can you help me in numbering pages"
Nandini smiled and said"Of course dear"
Aditi handed over her sheets,Nandini happily helped her . then,Nandini drew margins and decorated her sheet.
"Thanks you Nandini"
"Its a pleasure" nandini replied.

Nandini and Aditi became friends on their first day itself. Soon they found that there were many things in common.Nandini was always fun loving and amicable person.It was not a big deal for her to adjust into new environment.They chit chatted for sometime almost all topics under the sun. Then suddenly topic got drifted to Matrix .

"So you are going to work in Matrix" Aditi questioned nandini
"yes" Nandini nodded her head while she was arranging her pillow .
"Have you seen the Md Chandrasekhar"Aditi with a sly smile
Nandini"I have heard a lot about him. But never felt it necessary to see his photo. Even during my interview Mr Ashok and Miss Helen recruited me!! I have not seen him by any chance
Aditi " Augh !even if you search you will not find a clear picture. he maintains a low profile..He does not allow his photo to be published in any magazines.. Nandini..its better you did not see him.He is fat and grumpy bald headed man"
Nandini"You seems to know him more?"
Aditi "Nopes,My professor told me once...Else I will not being having this information!!
Nandini" Oh..is it... What does it have to do.. are we going to marry him"Nandini chided her
Aditi " Well.Yes Nandini Its not our problem".
The matters stood there and they went to sleep in their respective bed

Next day
Nandini got up quiet early . She was getting ready to office,when her mother called her in
Nandini: Hello Amma!
Akhila :"Nandini.. All the best the kanna ,I wish soon you should reach all new heights in your career"
Nandini:"Thanks Amma. "
Akhila : Did you have your breakfast
Nandini: Yes amma!
Akhila : kandadu sapidade (Dont eat unhealthy food)
Nandini: Yes Amma.. I will take only healthy food
Akhila : Eat fruits and drink juices.
Nandini : Amma.. Iam getting late
Akhila :"iru iru Sridhar pesunuma"( wait Sridhar wants to talk)
"Sridhar Enna di.. uyunga vellai paru.. Andha serial nandini madri urupudama pogada.(Dont become useless like Nandini in chandra nandini)

Nandini" Poda poi padi( Get lost! concentrate your studies)
Akhila : Dei poda..asamanjam ashadu madri pesada Sridhar (Don't talk like a fool Sridhar) Akhila gave a pat on Sridhar's back.She handed the phone to her mother in law.

Saraswathi " Amma,kannu kuti, Anda kaluda Sridhar pecha kekada. Inga paru kshemama poitu va enna( Don't listen to that Donkey Sridhar. You take care and have a nice day).
Nandini "My patti is so sweet"

Nandini was very happy and was feeling light after speaking with her family. Aditi was having some assignment work so she was sleeping since her work demands her in noon only. Nandini took an auto "Bhaiya.. Muje Matrix company jana hei"

Nandini landed Matrix group of companies sharply at 9:00 am. It was a modern, fast-paced company. They work with the latest technology like cloud computing. While other companies were going through financial troubles during the economic downturn, last year Matrix managed to prosper. Nandini thought "All in all, my internship has taught me many beneficial things. To always have an open mind and be willing to work in any type of environment and willing to adapt to a new work place . What I have learned , will always be a big part of me growing up. I'm looking forward to taking what I've learned and applying it here..
She was checked thoroughly in the entrance by security team. She was led into waiting hall.Nandini was inducted into the finance team after finishing initial formalities.
She was asked to wait in conference room along with few handful of new joiners.Nandini was not at all tensed while her other co joiners were very tensed.

Miss Helen came to the conference room on time along with Mr Ashok HR head. Helen was 31 year old ,unmarried.She wasn't beautiful in the classical way, no flowing golden curls or ivory skin; no piercing eyes of green. She was shorter than average and certainly larger than a catwalk model, but in her ordinariness she was stunning. She was in her thirties, but still so young that had the exuberance of youth.Her body definition was perfect and she walked with the confidence of someone a decade older.Helen took the dias and she spoke some boring things as introduction ,her voice was very meek.Literally Nandini started to fall sleep.Before concluding Helen announced that Mr Chandrasekhar will address to them shortly.Nandini after hearing his name remembered Aditi's words
"Chandrasekhar.. I wonder how will he look. Definitely he will be fat and will have a belly and bald ... After all he is minting money..Who cares.as long as my salary is credited..His looks should not be cause of concern for me".

Chandrasekhar came in side the hall. Nandini did not see him entering till others got up from seat. "Good Morning.. Please be seated " His voice was deep and commanding.

Chandrasekhar wore a black blazer and a blue shirt within it .His rich chocolate black hair that had tousled griminess which promised finesse. He had strong arched brows And then his eyes- they were deep and catastrophic, He had distinct cheekbones and an angular jaw, his pale skin made him look devilishly handsome.His perfect lips ripe for the kissing.The strength of his neck showed in the twining cords of muscle that shaped his entire body; strong arms, a firm board chest and abdomen.He was an Adonis among the other men .One look and all girls would be swooned at the sight of him.But he was modest. Despite all the opportunity that came his way he was a one-woman man who prized genuineness and thoughtful conversation above lipstick and high-heels.He was like the Sun and had people orbiting around him. In one way or another all the people that met him felt attracted to him. He was the brightest person you could ever meet.

Nandini had to admit he was handsome.But it did not make her really attracted towards him.She just saw him as her employer nothing beyond . Nandini carefully listened to his speech.He spoke about how the company was started and How it reached pinnacle.It lasted for some 15 minutes. At stroke of 15th minute,he concluded his speech and went to his cabin. He never cared to listen or speak to his new employees. Nandini thought he is an example of perfect professional.

Mr Ashok the Hr head and he gave some talks regarding company's rules .After initial introduction ,nandini and her co joiners were informed by Mr Ashok that she has to report her work to Helen .In case if Miss Helen was absent then they would report to Chandra.. He allocated new joiners their cubicle and place.Nandini was very happy to work . Her enthusiasm enhanced further when she saw a name plate in her desk Nandini Padmanabhan- senior Finance Analyst.

Part 3

Nandini was in team consisting of 7 members including her. It consisted of Mr Saravanan (10+ years exp),Sangeetha (8+ years exp),Radhika ,prapti(both belong 3+ years category), Ashwath (1+ years) and Shruti.shruti and nandini were new comers .Her team leader was Saravanan and Sangeetha was Business Lead. Both were good natured and was willing to teach her job patiently.Excel spread sheet and Powerpoint became her life. Whenever she had doubts she was kindly helped by her seniors. Radhika and Prapti were bubbly girls and were in same wavelength with Nandini.Needless to say They became close friends in no time.Sangeetha was good but still she was maintaining her distance . Ashwath was a jolly and carefree person. He was behaving decently at the same time he used to pull their legs.Initially Shruti was silent in that group but she was not spared ,at last she became talkative by lunch time.

Late Afternoon,after coming from lunch
Nandini was typing some letter in her system. Ashwath was sitting in the system next to her.He started some casual talks
Ashwath " Nandini.. Us yawni se bent hui tumko"
Nandini " kaon Yawni"
Ashwath "What .. You don't know.. Its Miss Helen.myself and Radhika have nick named her. You have to be very careful with her"
Nandini ""Is she a tiger Ashwath"
Ashwath " She is a nagin " He imitated a snake
Nandini"han ashwath.. she was looking a picasu during my interview
Ashwath "kya Picasu
Nandini In tamil picasu means Devil. She wanted to disqualify me,but Mr Ashok was against her.She gave up at last!
Ashwath Oh ! She dont like girls as a matter of principle!by the way picasa is nice
Nandini Picasa illa(no) picasu.and she busted into laughter.
Seeing her laughing, Radhika came and "kya Ashwath.. Meri dost to heart attack dete ho! looking at Nandini... forget it and get into work. Woh yawni ane wali hei.woh bahut chalak hei. Chandu mama ke age peeche ghumne ke liye ache nam kamane ke liye hum ko dhamkiyan deti hei...like she is only working in this company and we all are loitering.shit ! pichkari .She is

She took her mobile and called her home in Srirangam .Her Grandmother spoke from other side.
Nandini: Hello Patti
Saraswathi Ipo than ninaichen unna(just Now I thought of you).Are you in your hostel
Nandini : Yeah,I came to hostel
Saraswathi "nandini.. delhi epdi iruku( How is Delhi)
Nandini "nalla iruku (its good)

Avantika another very nice, cheerful, and endearing chapter. What I like about this particular FF is its light-hearted Tamil Brahmin flavor. You have succeeded in establishing and building it up very beautifully. There are some things very peculiar to this particular group. You have worked that out very well.

The next thing you managed very beautifully is amalgamating the reel show and real life of the characters in your FF. You also showed how the boundaries were erased at a number of points between reel and real when the characters like Nandini were accommodating too much of the show into their real life. Nandini for example sees everything through the Chandra Nandini lenses, even in her boss's physical appearance she sees Rajat Tokas the hero of her show.

With this particular update, you created a very vibrant, friendly, positive and also good workplace environment for Nandini. It was very good to see the camaraderie between the colleagues, how they compare notes with each other, how they exchange jokes, how they share the nicknames they have given to their immediate superior at the office, Helen.

When I was working in India, we had a boss who was a bit similar to your Helen, and we used to father together in the college canteen to talk about it. We used to call it the' Vambu Session'. So that part actually reminded me of that.

The introduction of Chandrasekhar was very brilliant. The way he was punctual, wasted no time, didn't speak too much nor too less, his captivating appearance, his arresting talk, the way he wasn't interested in knowing any of his employees personally and developing a rapport with them, it all spoke volumes about the kind of character he is. Very good Avantika. I loved it.

It was a Miracle that Chandra did not die . Dhara was traveling alone in the car to attend a family function on that ill fated day .He is a father of baby boy aged 11 months.
Akhila was listening to her daughter. Little does she knew,that destiny of her Daughter and that of Chandrasekhar Gupta is going to be same. Very soon.. Akhila is going to welcome Chandrasekhar as her Son I law...This fact is completely unaware to nandini and Chandra as well..

Fantastic taking off...yes many fans see rajat in Chandra and could not tolerate any comments against him..how can you say Chandrasekar is an ordinary SE..he is also royal by birth..so you are going to develop along the " love for a married man"...won't it be not against our sentiments..but I have to read futher

" Nandini you are grown girl and Matured too. I just like to give you one piece of advise . World is full of temptations . We cannot change those nor shut our eyes from them. But we can definitely make walls of our mind tall so that Nothing can deviate us from our path and goals . You have to resist all temptations and distraction and focus on your goals. All good and bad will approach you in a life.You have to be wise to take only goodness lika a Anna Pakshi(Swan).I hope you understand.
Padmanabh expected nandini to say yes.
"yes Appa.. I am there to gain experience and knowledge.I shall not indulge in any activities that will make you feel down".
Padmanabh continued his chanting.
Akhila "Amma.. You take children to temple. I have to go to courier office urgently. Your daughter in Coimbatore needs some documents. So iam going to send her it.

Nandini,Sridhar and Saraswathi went to Sri Ranganathaswamy temple. After finishing, worship all of them went to the temple pond . Nandini was aimlessly throwing stones in the pond.She tried to speak her heart to her Grandmother .
"patti(dadi)... I am quiet tensed"!
"dEAR.. even I am tensed... Did you know that Apama schemed to kill Durdhara and blame fell on Nandini. Chandra banished Nandini.."Nandini intercepted "Aiyoo,Patti... Let me say you something,till june Chandra and nandini will play hide and seek. Ipl is there till may 28..
"Oh... IPL.. Sridhar what is the score "
Sridhar instantly replied" KKr 20/0 "
Saraswathi "Very good start illa sridhar".Sridhar kkr na summa va..(KKr is a good team)
"Aiyoo Will you listen !I am very scared to go Delhi Patti" Nandini tried to bring her grandmother to her talks
"Look, Nandini.. You are qualified and matured. A girl belonging to this era should not speak such silly things.. You have to be confident. In those days.. when ladies were not allowed to continue studies ,I travelled upto 8 kms to educate myself. Just imagine in those bygone years,I took that extreme step to educate myself. You are my grand daughter,and you belong to this era..you speak such foolish things nandini... You are going to Delhi...
Saraswathi chided Nandini for her ignorance.
Sridhar too joined their conversation"pati..nandini is one paitiyam ( pagal).. Better get her married soon...Am I right Akka
Saraswathi" Oda pinni poduven rascal(I will thrash you)... Nandini for you your career is important.. All these marriage and family can wait. I was married when I was 17 and your mother married my son when she was 19. Within 1 year she gave birth to your sister. After that her world is only the kithcen. Nandini ,You have to break this stereotype just like Dhanya...She is well settled in Pune .You have to be example... listen to my words..Don't think of marriage without settling in your career.

Sridhar "Patti..I pity you.. You don't know her She will be seeing Rajat Tokas and Sharuk khan films in Delhi... You are having too much hopes on her.. Let me warn you.
Saraswathi gave small pat on his cheeks" Why Boys should have all fun".
Nandini hugged "Patti you are best".
Saraswathi " Nandini! As long as you don't brink srk or rt in your real Life..I am good else I will become another Apama.

Nandini and her father started to Bus stop in a taxi.Sridhar had booked Ola taxi. Akhila Sridhar and Patti went with them till Central Bus stop in Tiruchy to give send off.
Akhila was giving her instructions to Nandini.
" nandini,don't eat junk food. Oil your hair regularly and don't use shampoo. I have packed Shikka kai powder..
Saraswathi"Amma Akhila.. She is going to work in MNC.. Not in a Bhajana madam(place where bhajans are sung).
Akhila "Amma.. Nobody is going to smell her hair in Your MNc. Every day go to nearby Ganesh temple in morning.And one important thing. "Daily call me twice .I have kept Mango pickle and Parupu podi. It will help you incase if you miss the food.. "

In just another 6 hours they got down in Chennai and by 11:00 they have boarded the train.Its all well planned and organized!!! Nandini's journey in train ,was smooth. Time flew away like a magic.
