Hi All,
This post may have Spoilers.

I watched ADHM ( online, before you send me "Hypocrite alerts"😉). I don't want to get into any discussion about story or BO. I have just one question, that I have been asking since the movie was announced .
What is the logic behind having mostly Muslim characters, that too based in Pak ( which was cleverly changed later) for a KJO Diwali release movie?
The movie has no reference to characters' religion. They do not do anything related to their belief. In fact it was surprising that Anu never gave religious reasons to reject Ayaan. She could have mentioned it as one point of rejection.

A KJO movie is all about Pooja ki thaali, lamps and ~aa aa aa aa~ music in background. There is also a marriage sequence, that KJO turned into Muslim marriage. Lost opportunity for showing KJO marriage sequences.

I did not get logic of any character being Muslim, except Saba .
I also did not get logic behind the characters based in Pak. If it was so easily erasable, what was the point?

That they are Muslims or Hindus did not really strike me until I came across this question.

Perhaps there was a greater message in the movie about Indo-Pak relations? That Bollywood brings us together (just like how well Indian and Pakistani members on the forum get along together on this very forum).

As to why they are muslims - such questions have no end, why did they meet in London and not New York, why did Saba live in Vienna, why Ali sports a beard, why Saba doesn't change her surname, etc etc.. this is the story - Karan's vision. And he brought the same to life onscreen.

ADHM is a khichdi of all his previous movies.Because of the Muslim names, the movie looked 0.01% different. For that 0.01% difference,he made his characters Pakistani Muslims.
My question is why were they playing holi before marriage. Is it some kind of a custom in Pakistan or he showed it aise hi?

Exactly my thoughts, it was totally used out of no where, no reason behind it at all.

I agree with Bold part. It may be a reason.

I am not against them being Muslim, KJO was releasing movie on Diwali, so there must be some logic to sell the movie to majority Hindu audience on biggest Hindu festival. Isn't it?

On top of it he doesn't reference their religion at all !!

KJo ko ye thode na pata tha ki Uri incident ho jayega...aur fir itni badi controversy apne aap ho jayegi ADHM ko leke...😳

wo to apni taraf se doosri hi controversy ki preparation kar ke rakha tha - Hindu Indian boy Vs Pakistani Muslim girl... 😛

KJO ne prepare kia tha kisi aur controversy ke liye aur ho koi aur gayi... isilye last moment pe kuch changes karne pade - like Pakistan changed to Lucknow 😆
