CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED TWO

'I love you. Have been for as long as I can remember and I never stopped. It ripped me apart knowing what I had done to you and by the time I thought of getting my life back together there was a lot happening that I knew if I said anything you would never take me seriously let alone listen to me...'' He said his voice breaking

'God knows I tried, I really did but you would never give me the time of day and I knew for as long as I was using you were never going to be with me. I wouldn't have been what you deserved and I knew he deserved nothing less that the best so I decided to get myself clean...'' He added

'So you did this for me then... You want me to think that the reason you are sober is because of me...'' She said

'No... I did it for me. I wanted to be a better man. I wanted a better life and for me that comes with you in it. I tried to walk away believe me but I couldn't so I just stopped and found a way back into your life and asked Ishita to help me'' Said Mihir

'Why are you telling me all this now'' Said Mihika who began tearing up again

'Because I love you Mihika, more than you know and that should count for something. It has to be because it is all I have. And I can tell from the way you kissed me back that there is something you feel as well...'' Said Mihir as he leaned in putting his forehead on hers

'I am begging you Mihika please give me a chance...'' He added and Mihika who wanted to hide a lot of things from him felt weak in her knees and broke down putting her arms around him as she cried

'Why did you wait this long... ' she said

'I am sorry...'' He said his voice breaking as he hugged her back holding her like his life depended on it

'Now it is too late... And there is nothing I can do...'' She said as she let go looking at him as tears streamed down her face

'What do you mean...'' Said Mihir

'My parents, there is no way they will ever allow this... You and I... ' She said

'Why not...'' He asked

'Your family and mine have taken each other to hell and back. There are some lines we crossed that we can't come back from. Ishita has two kids with Raman but they are forcing her to divorce him, you really think that they will allow me and you...'' She said wiping her tears trying to be strong

'What has Ishita and Raman got to do with you and me'' He asked

'It is not them, it has much to do with your last name...'' Said Mihika as she composed herself because she was slowly realizing that walking away after everything was put in the open was not going to be easy as she had earlier imagined

'Am sorry I do not understand... What has my last name got to do with me? I am not Raman and I am definitely not my father. Isn't it harsh that I get to be judged based on what they did'' He said getting agitated

'Mihir, please just forget about all this...'' Said Mihika

'What... No... ' Said Mihir

'Mihir please if you care about me even just a little you will drop this...'' Said Mihika

'And if you care about me even once you wouldn't have asked me to do something like that, I can't believe you...'' He said frustrated

'This is what I want...'' She said

'No... This is what your father wants and I am sorry I am not giving in. I am not allowing this nonsense to go on like we are on reruns of some TV drama. I love you, I am in love with you, doesn't that count for something...'' Said Mihir but Mihika just kept quiet

'Tell me right now that you do not feel anything for me and I will never show my face to you.'' He added

'That is not fair...'' She said

'That doesn't answer my question...'' Said Mihir standing his ground

'I can't deal with this right now... I can't...'' She began walking away

'That is what you do? You are good at walking away when things get tough but you can't just imagine I do not exist... ' He said following her

'Oh screw you Mihir, you can't talk to me like that...'' Said Mihika and Mihir out of frustration said

'Why not... Because it is the truth... How is it that you can go to the ends of the world for anybody else but yourself...''

At that point Mihika was getting angry and in all honesty so was Mihir and this conversation that looked like it was taking a correct turn was turning south quickly and for fear of saying something wrong or hurtful Mihika kept quiet.

'All I need from you is to give me a reason and I swear I am going to fight for you'' He said but Mihika just walked going to the end of the road and she hailed an Auto

'So you are just going to leave me here...'' He said but she kept quiet

'Mihika... Mihika...'' He called her but she wasn't barging. She instead gave her address to the driver and off they went

'Mihika...'' He called her again as the Auto left

Mihika could hear him call and she knew she was being a tad childish but she also knew there was no way her father was changing his mind and she would never go against him. She wasn't as bold as Ishita and if Ishita had given in to their demands, there was no way they were going to listen to hers.

She put her hand on her mouth as she cried not believing how the evening had turned out. All the doubt she was walking round with for close to 8 years she realized was just a misunderstanding. Once he started to truly open up to her, one look at him and she knew he wasn't lying about his feelings. She began having regrets wishing she had listened to Ishita when she asked her repeatedly to talk to Mihir; maybe then things would have been different.

Mihir couldn't believe she was just walking way like nothing happened. He couldn't understand what the problem was and couldn't believe she was just giving up like that. Mr. Iyer had a stronger hold on his children than he led on. The difference between him and his father(Bhalla) as Mihir was learning was that he never took advantage of it, until now.

But Mihir was not going to back down until Mihika herself asked him to stay away, so he grabbed the next Auto and followed her.

Meanwhile, Raman and Ishita felt like they had had the longest ride back to the Iyers' house. Ishita quietly sat in the back while Raman drove without a word or even as much as an acknowledgement about what had just happened.

Ishita looked at him through the mirror hoping even once that he looked at her or even just stole glances at her but nothing. He just stayed true to his task and drove her home. If she had any doubt about how this would turn out, she was now sure, whatever he father had wanted was about to come to pass because she may not have been with him in the last 7 years but she knew him well enough to know that he had given up.

She turned looking out the window as she let her tears flow because it was the only thing she could do in that time to make herself feel better although it wasn't doing much either. She knew a piece of her had just died.

Raman was breaking each time he heard her silent sobs, it broke his heart to know she was hurting but he also knew someone had to bring an end to this craziness. He had done everything in his power to make up for past mistakes and he was trying. He had done very thing to fight for them but she pushed him back every time asking him to stop.

Maybe his father was right, it was time he let her go, they had had a fantastic love while it lasted and he had to let go or it would kill him. What he went through when she left only he could understand that. He thought she had cheated and yet her not being their tore him apart more than anything she did.

This love he had for her wasn't healthy and if he didn't put a stop for her taking him for granted then it would never stop. He meant it when he said he was done, if she loved him as much as he knew in his heart of hearts she did, she had to fight for him. She had to fight whatever hell demon she feared now and she had to fight for him otherwise this time, they really were done

They drove to through the gate to the Iyer Mansion as Raman parked and got out opening the door for her. The Iyers as well as Romi were all in the living room waiting to see how it had all panned out.

Mrs. Iyer was a bit nervous than all of them because she knew that how they thought this would play out was not how it was going to work out. Raman had been through too much, more than he led on and she unlike Mr. Iyer understood that each person no matter how much they loved had a breaking point and it looked like Raman had hit his, something that worried her. They walked into the house and Mr. Iyer to stay in character began

'Where have you been? What took you too long...'' He said

'I am back aren't I'' Said Ishita frustrated

'Took longer than I thought, I am sorry. I needed to clear a few things with her which I did and I brought her back without a scratch'' Said Raman unusually calm

'Are you alright bro...'' Said Romi who became worried a bit

'I am good... I just have a few things to say and thank God you are here too. It means I will kill two birds with one stone...'' Said Raman

'Oookay...'' Said Romi

'Kushan did tell me about your proposition for this divorce and mistakenly thought that we would work it out and try and be a family but clearly I was wrong...'' He said looking at Ishita who just kept quiet

'Anyway, I do not agree to these terms and I want them changed or I am not signing anything'' He said

'You can't do that... He can't...'' Mr. Iyer began

'Relax Papa, let us hear him out'' Said Romi

'I am not allowing my kids to move away again from me. I need to be there for them, I need to be a father to them. I want to be a father to them...'' He said

'You can't take my grandbabies from me. You even have no right to make demands where they are concerned... Hell you are lucky we didn't leave you to the streets'' Said Mrs. Iyer who was beginning to panic because in the back of her minds she knew this may have turned out this way

'Ishita can have everything I own I do not care but I am not allowing my kids to grow up without me being in their lives. Visits are not a way to raise a child... I am not asking you to change your plans for me. All I am asking is for a couple of months maybe 6 or so such that I can be able to put a few things in order and also settle down and make roots in London where I am assuming they will be staying with you...'' He said

There was a silence in the room as Mr. Iyer looked at Raman like he was crazy. What the hell was he talking about? He had to admit a part of him was a bit elated because he couldn't help but think in the back of his mind that maybe this would have been for the best. The look on his daughter's face however and the tears in her eyes just broke him to pieces and he knew if this were to work, it would only be good for him and not his children

'Hold on... So you will sign the divorce papers then...'' Said Mrs. Iyer surprised

'If the terms are changed to these then yes... You can have my company that she helped rejuvenate if you want but this is what I want'' He said

'Wha... Hold on...'' Said Mr. Iyer but Ishita interrupted

'I do not want your company... As far as the terms are concerned, you can have whatever you want... Change them how ever so you need and send me the papers when you are done...'' Said Ishita finding it hard to fight back the tears in her eyes

'Ishu wait...'' Said Romi surprised

'Romi... This is what I want...'' She said looking at Raman as tears filled her eyes

'Alright then...'' Said Raman

'Hold on, what if we refuse...'' Said Mrs. Iyer

'Then see you all in court...'' Said Raman

'No one is refusing. Just draw up the papers and bring them I will sign...'' Said Ishita

'Kushan will bring them: you will deal with him from now on until this whole proceedings end. You won't see me here again...So I will ask him to get straight to it and he will call your lawyer tomorrow...'' Said Raman before he turned around and walked out

'Raman, hold on... Raman...'' Said Romi but Raman who was now in tears wasn't barging, he just continued and walked out

'What the hell just happened...'' Said a shocked Romi

'Ishu...'' Mrs. Iyer called her daughter who was having endless tears streaming down her face

'He can't do this... He can't just do this... I mean ' Mr. Iyer began

'What else do you want papa? You asked me to file for divorce I did, he is divorcing me so what is your problem now?'' Asked Ishita

'Ishu...'' Mr. Iyer called her concerned but she wasn't having it

'Papa, please...'' Said Ishita before she walked away

'Mihika... Mihika wait ...'' Called Mihir but Mihika just barged in tears in her eyes

'What is it...'' Said Mrs. Iyer

'I just... Mihika... I just want to talk to her...'' Said Mihir looking at Mihika

'I think you need to leave... Clearly she doesn't want to see you ...'' Said Mr. Iyer standing between them and Mihir knowing it may have been the wrong time reluctantly walked out

Mr. Iyer of course having inkling that whatever they had begun where Mihika and Mihir were concerned was now in motion turned to his daughter and said

'We can't work on taking out one Bhalla while you bring in another. We do not run a Bhalla exchange program for the Iyer girls...'' He said

'Papa please, I am not in the mood...'' She said wiping the tears in her eyes

'Mihika what is it...'' Said Mrs. Iyer

'Nothing Mom I am fine. No Bhalla exchanging is going to happen stop worrying'' She said angrily as she looked at her father

'I didn't...'' Mr. Iyer began talking but Mihika interrupted

'Whatever Dad I am tired excuse me...'' She said as she stood up to walk away but she heard someone call her

'Mihika...'' Said Romi causing her to turn

'You need to go...'' Said Mr. Iyer

'I am but I just need to say something to her...'' He said causing Mr. Iyer to step back

'A reason... That is all I need...'' He said but Mihika just looked at him
