Chapter Four
A child out of wedlock.
Here mind screamed with endless possibilities of accusations she will earn when she will return home with a child. She sat down on the floor and encircled her knees in her arms. How reckless could she be? Spending one night with Abhi had landed her in a mine of so many what ifs. She should not have let him have his way. But how could she stop him when all she wanted that night was to hold him close when he was not himself. She couldn't pretend in the solitary of her room that se had not wanted him as much as he needed her. How easily she had then shushed her mind th she would live her life with just one last memory of her husband and now she had a whole new price to pay!
What if he wanted to take away the baby?
Abhi knocked at the door, a little too frantically. He took out his cell phone to ring her just when she opened the door and the sight was more pleasing than his thoughts. Pragya stood on the other side in her grey pajamas and a red baggy full sleeves shirt. Her hair tied up in a messy bun and a pair of glasses rested on her nose. His chashmish.
She sat on the bed, leaving the chair for him to occupy. Abhi kept the paper bag on the desk and decided to stand instead.
"It was a mistake." She whispered looking at the floor.
"Your denying will not change the fact that you are pregnant." He said in a no-nonsense tone.
"But it was just one night." She looked up at him helplessly.
"Twice." He replied looking into her eyes before hers swayed and his continued to roam around the room which belonged to her now. A single bed neatly made, a small desk with piles of books and a small built in cupboard. The silence between them had never felt more awkward. Looking at her tear streaked face, he said the first thing that came to his mind. "We can think of a solution."
She stood up instantly. "No. Don't even mention it." She didn't know what possessed her but the words were out of her mouth before she could stop herself. "I will not abort the baby." True, just a while ago she was apprehensive about being a single mother but just the thought of killing the smallest size of human being was too much for her bearing.
"What other option do you have?"
She kept rooted to the same spot. He could not possibly be here to terminate her pregnancy. "Your wife would not know about it."
"No?" He hovered over her, his eyes boring into hers as he matched her step with his.
She shook her head.
"I have a right over our baby as much as you do." He took another step.
"But you will not decide what I do." She took a step back.
"Only you have the right to decide what others do." Another step.
"To what are you referring?"
Another step.
"Does divorce deed ring any bell?"
He took one last step until he had her pinned to the wall. An angry vain throbbed on the side of his jaw while he caressed her cheek with the back of his fingers. She looked delectable, all right. The sensation on her skin made her eyes closed, expecting him to finish what he started. He leaned forward, his lips replacing his fingers. She parted her lips, waiting for him to take over. That's when she heard the sound of the door opening and she opened her eyes only to find him standing next to it.
"That's for thinking that I'd even suggest abortion!"
She cursed her hormones for acting like a wanton!
Please don't stand so close to me,
I'm having trouble breathing
I'm afraid of what you'll see, right now
