Post Contains Mughal Rajput accounts of this wedding.

It is interesting to note the huge dowry{it was custom among royals those days} given by Raja Bhagwan Das, and equally amazing to note that Akbar ordered gold to be scattered all the way from Amer to Mughal capital , along the entourage of this princess.!!!

More is present in the post itself..

Thanks, Abhay, for this beautiful description of the GRAND wedding of Prince Salim and Princess Maan Bai. 👏

The show is also poised to show this event though I doubt the PH will spend money to show just how fabulous the original event was! Salim and Maan Bai were just children and must have hugely enjoyed the occasion with their cousins and siblings. No matter how many wives Salim had later, Maan Bai, his first wife, his cousin, his childhood friend must have been close to his heart and special always. 😊

To me, she will always remain a tragic figure, much like Zeb-un-Nissa, who struggled between her loyalty to her husband and her only son and who died young under tragic circumstances. Did she imagine when she got married in such a beautiful manner that Fate would strew thorns in her path very soon?

This is a fascinating post. Thank you.

Maan Bai has always appeared to me as a romantic and tragic figure. The above narration shows that Akbar had a special daughterly regard for her. Any wonder then, that her son Khusrau was so favored by Akbar to be the next Emperor, in case Salim did not repent.

Thanks for sharing interesting info.
I remember my grandad used to tell us stories of kings n kingdoms and always mentioned that during Akbar's reign there was grandeur and everything was pompous.
He was a history buff.
So can envisage the indulgence if the entrouge from Ameer to Agra was strewn with gold coins

Just imagining that the kingdoms those days must have been so rich n prosperous in the whole world.
And the rulers were intelligent and great statesmen.
I wonder where it disappeared
Both the richness in terms of wealth and wit.

Tfs

Thanks Abhay, for sharing hitherto unknown details about the grandiose wedding celebrations of Salim and Maan Bai.

It was customary for distinguished female members of the Imperial Harem, to attend family weddings outside the Agra mahal, isn't it ? I am wondering why nothing has been mentioned in historical records, about Salim's mother MUZ's participation or presence in the wedding festivities.

Enjoyed reading the details. One can clearly see the amount of wealth, the relatively small Kachchwa clan possessed. Akbar reciprocated in kind too and respected the Hindu rites and rituals by which the union was solemnized. By entering an alliance with the Rajputs for the second time, Akbar firmly cemented an awesome relationship with them for life.

Radhika,

They were royals. They were among the most rich people of those times. And it was according to their status to give this dowry according to those times, as that was the custom. No doubt this looks like a fairy-tale, when we read about the festivities. Not sure about the show, as i do not expect anything from them now. :)

It is unfortunate that she got caught up between father and son later and many other tensions. Though, Salim loved her very dearly. The only wife for whom he bitterly laments in his memoirs.!
