A note on yesterday's thread: Guys, thanks so much for letting me not take myself or the serial seriously yesterday - and that too without judging me for it. 🤗
It was fun to continue to the LU masti on the baby talk on the show- from baby names, to Ruqaiyya's silliness, to Bakshi Bano's fate. Err ... it did go off-topic, so let's try to see if we can try to have fun but stay on-topic today 😉😆
The past few episodes highlight the challenges of taking a view of this serial on a daily basis - on one day it is an electrifying historical drama, another day high-voltage on emotions, and then another day themed around the girl child and general baby talk, and today a hodge podge.
By not taking a daily view of the episode, I was able to zoom out and see a beautiful theme which is what I wanted to share in this take 5- the shades of parenthood.
In addition, I received a lot of sweet notes from folks - particularly one, "I miss the old Divi. Please come back." Well, I am still very much the same Divi. So, this take is not for me, not for the CVs, but for YOU all who have loved and supported me and my threads so much! 🤗
So, here we go, the shades of parenthood
(1) Bakshi Bano: I was never much a fan of Bakshi Bano- I will be honest. For all the help Jodha has given her in the fake pregnancy track, she was never truly grateful for it. But, then you can understand where she is coming from. She is a young widow who had a second chance in life. Unfortunately, her brother did not see Shariffudhin's true colors and had him married to his sister. And, she did not want to be alone again. That is why instead of criticizing Shariffudhin for his actions, she takes her anger and frustration out on Jodha.
She described her dependence on Shariffudhin quite well in the Ratanpur ka Qila track- which till date continues to be the best written track on this show.
But, look at her fate, in protecting her husband in the past, she now stands at a cross roads between her child and her husband.
And, while it is silly to hide the child's gender, one can see her true love for her child ... as for the safety of the child she hid its gender from its father.
And Bakshi Bano is representative of many women trying to protect their girl child till date.
(2) Jodha: You know Jodha will be a great mother ... she shows maternal care and concern for everyone. Her maternal instincts helped her build her first relationships in the Agra fort as she developed a strong bond with Rahim. And this bond has only grown stronger with time, from saving him to the pond, to playing hide and seek (though I am not sure why Jalal never joined in the fun! 😉), to telling sweet bed-time stories.
Who can forget the beautiful poem she had written for Jalal-Ruqaiyya's baby-to-be ... rising above her hatred for Jalal, she brought to life the beautiful happiness and dreams a child is to his royal parents. And this continued, in her love and care for Ruqaiyya in her fake pregnancy. To her being a mother is the biggest happiness ... and she is happy to share that happiness with others.
And that is what is driving her concern for Bakshi Bano and her children as well.
And while she did take her kids on an adventurous ride, we do know she will be loving and caring mother. 😆
(3) Ruqaiyya: And then as a perfect foil to Jodha, is Ruqaiyya. She does not understand what motherhood is at all. During her first pregnancy on the show, she was gloating in being MUZ. She played with everyone's emotions during her fake pregnancy, not understanding what it meant to be a mother. I am not justifying her actions but perhaps this has to do with her own upbringing- in a touch, volatile environment, where she herself lost her parents.
She did not understand nor trust love and motherhood type sentiments ... and clung onto titles that she felt would be less fickle and stay with her till time.
And now again, she thinks she can separate a child from her mother so she can have a title of MUZ.
And I know Ruqaiyya is an eye-sore to many, but there are people in the world like her- for who marriage and children are more of a status symbol
And it is Ruqaiyya's foil to Jodha, that makes Jodha all the more beautiful.
Perhaps, I am looking too much into it, but I have heard that in the future Jalal will let Ruqaiyya take care of one of his grandchildren ... and I wonder could it be because she finally realized that she needed to fill the emotional void in her life- something that titles could not fill throughout her life. And finally, she would raise the child, for the sake of the child, as there are no titles attached with it.
(4) Shariffudhin: You may wonder how Shariffudhin is on this list ... but he is indeed a shade of parenthood.
There are some evil folks, that no matter how evil they are, are loving to their children. And then there is Shariffudhin. For him, his child is a stepping stone, part of his designs of a power. And a girl child, has no role to play in those designs.
For him the child, means nothing else but a symbol of power and status. And sadly, that is also a reality in the world today. In a country where the girl child is constantly is in danger, this is a sad truth.
And is not a reflection of today , then what is - where girls are killed to this moment.
And it is because of parents like Shariffudhin, the true gem of parents shine even brighter, bringing me to my next shade:
(5) Jallaludhin-Mohammed-Akbar: He had a tumultuous childhood, just like Ruqaiyya, but unlike Ruqaiyya this made him value children anymore. And that is what makes his heart so much more endearing.
In the early days, the scene that stole my heart, was the way he hugged the young peasant child- seeing himself in the child and releasing the child's parents. Unlike Ruqaiyya, he responded to his own hardened childhood, by showering his love on other children. How cute was it to see Jalal, who would bow before none, bow to Rahim to ride as an elephant.
And who can forget the beautiful speech after Jodha's fake pregnancy, where he faced his own sadness for not having a child, but also embraced his awaam as his children. How could he possibly be childless without his awaam! That is what makes a great leader- his people are not just a duty but love and dedication.
That is why his heart went out to the little girl in the doli and he wanted to eradicate child marriages across his kingdom ... Not just at home.
And while it may be funny to discuss child names in the DEK, it is just the CVs way of showing how much he loves children. 😆
And the irony, that despite loving children so much he has never seen the beauty and innocence of a newborn in his hands ... and hence, the beautiful glow on his face when he holds his nephew in his hands. And his eagerness at Jodha's own delivery.
In conclusion:
Guys, on a daily basis, this shows has highs and lows ... the Jodha-Jalal relationship will have highs-and-lows, the dialogues will have highs and lows, the execution will have high and lows. Even the CVs cannot deliver every day
When you are feeling low, just step back and see the bigger picture- no matter what Jodha-Jalal were soul mates, no matter what Akbar was a great emperor. And that is why I zoomed out.
Highlight of the day: Today, they discussed war as well in the DEK! I liked Jalal saying that they need to send a message they are not weak after Atgah Khan's death. And the Maan Singh conversation was good and we know he was always by Akbar's side.
But has Jalal already left already? 😲 That was a good way to get him out of the picture for SD's kaandh.
BTW, I wonder if Maharana Pratap has new clothes. 😆
That should have sent red alert to Jalal... she is hiding something ... 😆
So, thoughts on my take , the episode, this track? Anything? (oh well, not anything 😉😆)
As you know, it is your likes and your comments that truly keep me going!
