Veteran actor Kuldeep Pawar passes away


Veteran actor Kuldeep Pawar known for his impeccable comic timing and convincing portrayal of negative characters breathed his last at the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Mumbai due to kidney failure.

Sanjay Bhutada, producer of his last film ' Mahaguru' said, "He was known as 'Daddy' in the film industry. He was my daddy also, as he taught me everything about filmmaking. It is a great loss to me and my family. I was going to meet him a few days back but couldn't make it and I regret that." He further added, "It won't be wrong to say that he lived till the release of his last film 'Mahaguru'."

The actor's last rituals will be done on Tuesday in Mumbai.

Kuldeep was a part of popular plays like 'Pati Sagale Uchapati' which went on to become one of his most recognised roles in theatre industry and also inspired the Bollywood film 'All The Best'. 'Shapit', 'Arre Sansar Sansar' and 'Vazir' are some of his prominent films. He shot to fame with his serial 'Paramveer' on television.

Veteran actress Nanda passes away at 75

Yesteryear actress Nanda, who has been a part of hits like Teen Deviyaan, Gumnaam and many more died at the age of 75 in Mumbai on Tuesday (March 25).

The 75-year-old actress died this morning at her Andheri residence here.
"It is shocking as she did not have any history of illness," a relative of hers told on condition of anonymity.

Nanda, who was last seen in Prem Rog' in 1983, was born on January 8, 1939 in Kolhapur, Maharastra. She was born to Marathi actor and director Master Vinayak and was the niece of filmmaking pioneer V Shantaram.

The actress was briefly engaged to Amar Akbar Anthony' director Manmohan Desai before he died in 1994 and remained unmarried ever since.

Nanda started as a child artist and got her first break as a grown up in V Shantaram's 1956 film Toofan Aur Diya'.

With the success of Toofan Aur Diya', Nanda did not look back and went on to establish herself in the Hindi film industry with hits like Jab Jab Phool Khile', Gumnaam', Teen Deviyan', The Train', Mandir', Angarey', Ram Laxman', Bandi', Ittefaq', Hum Dono', Prayashchit', Ahista Ahista', Prem Rog' and Mazdoor' among several others.

She excelled most often as a supporting star but also found great acceptance and popularity as a lead heroine in later years.

Her identification with the title role of Choti Bahen' which stuck in real life. She shared screen space with noted actors like Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar, Dev Anand, Waheeda Rehman, Rajesh Khanna and Shashi Kapoor with whom she starred in eight films.

Their pairing in Jab Jab Phool Khile' was a huge success and inspired Raja Hindustani'. It was for the first time that the actress played a westernised role.

Nanda was nominated for Filmfare Award five times for her performance in Bhabhi (1957), Aanchal (1960), Ittefaq (1969), Ahista Ahista (1981) and Prem Rog (1982).

She won Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for Aanchal'.

After a small role in Manoj Kumar's 1972 film Shor', Nanda reduced her work in films. Her other films such as Chhalia' and Naya Nasha' did not work.

She made a brief return to acting in 1982 as a character actress where she played the onscreen mothe of Padmini Kolhapure in Ahista Ahista', Mazdoor' and Prem Rog'.

Nanda's last rites will be performed at 4 pm at the Oshiwari crematorium.

My most fav nanda film is Ittefaq - this movie was just 90 minutes duration & songless & edge of the seat suspense thriller - much ahead of times ! Kudos to Nanda, Kaka & Yash chopra (dir).

Marathi's 1st Pop singer Nandu Bhende, son of Atmaram Bhende passed away 2 weeks back.
