Guide to Parenting ' Shilpa Aunty Style!

Imitation is the best form of flattery. Credit for this inspiration cum flattery goes to the love I found on Mou.'s thread found here:-

https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/post/28442563

and admiration and joyfully blissful commentary found in Mimi's thread here:-

https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/post/28935637

I doubt I will be able to capture the depth of emotion of Mou.'s post nor the zany and beautiful insights of Mimi's, therefore I would advise you to spend time vacationing there rather than here. Further for a truly worthy tribute to Shilpa Aunty read Rinky's post found here:-

https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/post/28321830

Please hit the 'like' so that I may ascertain if I am only amusing myself.

I intend to 'be very Mayank' and go chronologically, from beginning to end, cherishing each and every scene of Shilpa's Aunty, however please be as Nupurish as you wish in your comments. Please feel free to add VM's and also ff which bright idea was inspired by Mimi's post, whereby I noted and she replied in bold,

"When Mayank says "Mujhe iss aag pe garv hai" that mischievous monkey look, I could picture him as a child in his little school uniform, with one pocket containing a shiny red apple for the teacher and in the other a slingshot and matches..."

"HAHAHA that is so Mayank! I could totally see him. *sighs* I wish there was an episode dedicated to their childhood flashbacks. I'd love to see goody-two-shoes Mayank getting in trouble, and Morena Express bullying others."

I am unable to dream up wondrous scenes like those who write ff, but came up with the following scene (truly no false modesty, I know my limits!)

Can you imagine Mayank 'King of the playground' vs. Little Miss Drama cum Filmy Queen. Their arguments, their tantrums!

Little Mayank "When I grow up, I am going to become a lawyer and sue you for plagarism of
Madhubala"
Little Nupur "er, plague-ur-rhythm! Mathlab? dil ke bimari aur dance! Hai! Agar mein ek pal ke liye Madhubala ban gaye, mein toh tum aur tumarey faizool baatein ko chhodker, apna Raj Kumar ko dhoondthi!"
Little Mayank "!?!!??!" Just that horrified, dumbfounded, 'is this 'little' girl for real, expression!

A light bulb, despite its cheap, flickering and unreliable quality, lit up in my head'Can you imagine' The adventures of little Mayu and Shilpa Aunty'? Those moments that were pivotal in the making of Mayank. I implore you talented writers, if you feel inspired to do so, please share such scenes here with us!

Love, pura DIL SE LOVE.......DUNIYA KE JITNA LOVE SAB LOVE

Your friend,

Sabah

Mayank, I am sure that caught your attention!

That soul that captured the strong hearts of others; glittering moons and bright planets seemingly pulled by his gravitational force into orbit; his character's beauty an incomparable delight and his smile...

...they were all a reflection of the light of the soul of the character brought to life by the excellent and exquisite portrayal by Vaishnavi. McDonald, SHILPA AUNTY. Who made being known something of a 'mummy's boy' a compliment, a badge to wear with gratitude!

STEP ONE. Build a loving trusting bond.

I named this step one rather than lesson one, to highlight Aunty Shilpa's more easygoing manner as opposed to Mayank's regimental attitude. (I wonder if that is from his father or if there is another underlying cause.)

Up until the introduction of Shilpa Aunty, the adults depicted in MJHT were caricatures with the exceptions of Bauji and Deodhar Sir (Mayank's future incarnation, until Nupur saved him) We had to wait eleven episodes before this wonderful character was introduced, by then MJHT had found a special place in our hearts but the beauty of her character imbued our souls!

Up until this moment we had only seen the dashing hero cum sadu/sarcastic side to Mayank.

Then entered this vivacious, breathtakingly beautiful lady. (I have imagined scenes where men become enchanted by her... ...to the 'disturbance' of Mayank.) In real life I have noticed, that people cannot hide nor fail to exhibit that which resides in their hearts. Actors being people, this rule naturally applies to them too.

{Lesson One By Mayank. In the Arabic language there is a term called khileqa, the closest I have come across in the English Language is micro-expressions or body language, but it is something more. If Khalq is your outer body, Khuluq your character, then Khileqa is an outward, subtle or extravagant, expression of your character into your body and manner. Does anyone know of another term for this, in any other language or culture?}

Her Khileqa or her inner and outer beauty combination is resplendent! I cannot believe that anyone could see her and not fall in love with her.

Then their conversation. On paper the dialogues could lean towards syrupy or mellifluous however the exceptional acting talents of both raises the scene to a level which is both heart-warmingly endearing and full of charm. In less than a minute, the briefest of glimpses, the script writers, actors and directors show as a stable, loving mother-son relationship built upon trust and love whereby they point out each other foibles, gently guide towards betterment and provide for each other companionship. It seems extraordinary that Shilpa Aunty could have a son like Mayank, that is until see witness 'Mayu'.

I loved the way the creators depicted this simple premise; that the best things in life are free. That which is truly worth obtaining is to be found within the hearts of people and not in material things. The moderate living accommodations of Mayu and his mum overflowing with their love as opposed to Samrat's large mansion which even though it is filled to the brim with all modern day amenities remains strangely empty.

Further credit to Vaishnavi and Arjun whose ease of delivery and chemistry made us forget that they are not actually mother and son. Their opening banter about the coffee; the gracefulness of their exchange of words and actions echoing the harmonious melody playing in synchrony within both their hearts.

Then the lightning strike...

Mayank mentions some 'pagal ladki'. Shilpa Aunty doesn't bat an eyelid, nor raise an eyebrow or tease him about 'a girl'. Why? At this point she knows the only 'girl' in Mayu's life is her. Impossible to make fun of the impossibly improbable.

Back to the lightning strike...

Mayank moves the items between them and moves closer, we all imagine to deliver some sarcastic retort to Aunty's sly comment upon his idiosyncratic behaviour, and says'.

"Toh tum abhi tak kyu jaagre ho?"

"Tujhe nahin pata?"

"Pata hai, per baar baar suney main accha lagta hai' 'tum jaagre ho isliye"

I think every Mayank fan did a double take! What did he just say?!!? I did not know Mayank came in a sweet version! Does not every girl yearn for this? That their love have a special side, part and even smile that they keep apart only for them, that no one else can invade upon or ever know except his cherished ones; that keeps a special place in his heart which is only reserved for them? Like Darcy his sister and Elizabeth and maybe Bingly; Captain Wentworth his sister and Anne. For Mayank, his mum and then eventually Nupur. Have I revealed too much?

Then as sudden as a leaf falling off a branch, disciplinarian Mayank returns to remind his mum about the importance of punctuality. Aunty Shilpa responds with jovial flair; as one who is accustomed to such speeches as well as abrupt temperaments changes; she doesn't even blink or hint.

Then again we witness the gracefulness of Vaishnavi and Arjun as Mayank shoos her out of his room, followed by the Piece de rsistance "Maa balon ko mat chuo please!" Which Shilpa Aunty lovingly mimics...

Hey Sabah,
I was being alittle cautious of replying to such a outstanding post as I thought you might continue ahead but i just couldn't help it, i felt a mere clicking of the like button would be no way to appreciate the points you put across.
I appreciate because i genuinely loved the way you have highlighted one of the most beautiful relationships in the show, its unfortunate that this relatonship has been totally sidelined where now after Mayank is married, it could have been explored at another level but alas it was not meant to be but we never know of the future do we? With such a wonderful post, i can only feel good about life thus i don't want to even look at the path of unfortunes but celebrate what we had and always will.
Sorry for my rambling. Indeed you have put across each and every point so well. It is true that the best things in life come for free, sad it is we never realise it and keep on complaining about materialistic things. I have always considered Shilpa aunty to be a better parent than even bauji, as she never kept any wall between mayank and her, the openness, love was the key to the beautiful relationship, fear only hinders development of relations.
I am sowie for going off topic yet again but sabah, the way you have highlighted the relationship i just don't have words to tell you, how much it touched me and made me realise the importance of simple and yet the best things in life.
Most importantly as rightly pointed out via the title of your post, shipla aunty teaches one how to be a good parent, everyone needs guidance which certainly includes parents.
Keep it up with such amaxing posts.👏 👏👏

Sabah one more thing, i totally concur with your analysis or indeed drawing of analogy betweeen the characters of Mayank and Darcy, the most unique and the best part i found about Mayank was that he was never open to the world, always minding his own business but did open up only to his closed ones which were his mum and later Nupur.
Now M opening up to all,. esp Samrat, with those lame dialogues and talks has just taken away M, his class and the charismatic personality. Opening up is important but only to close ones was what M was all about, i saw nothing wrong but something which was perfectly normal, human and realistic.
I do apologise for tending to go towards the misfortunes of mjht, it is indeed very hard and courageous to see the bright side of things amongst the dark man i.e the current state of the show, It just makes me sad to see loss of such amazing characters.

Hey Butterfly,

I said no loyalty only honesty but from you I knew it would only ever be kindness.

I wholeheartedly agree. People search, scour the earth for precious gems when the beauty of the soul can surpass even the most vibrant of stones, or even rainbows for that matter.

People spend hundreds of pounds on miracles creams when inner beauty can give depth to the deepest of wrinkles.

I sincerely pray to God that I get even a little finger's worth of your inner beauty, Senny, then I would surely be blessed.😳

Shilpa Aunty and Mayu will always remain upon the legendary couples of fiction, no matter what, I cannot deny the creatives this feat!

Sabah

EDIT: My mother blames my singledom upon Darcy! Thanks for agreeing, sometimes I think I only see what I wish to see.

Be as melancholy as you wish. There is beauty in sadness too, it signifies a pure heart, and can give us momentum to bring change for betterment.

Aww Sabah I am deeply humbled, don't make me feel so high and grand because I am not na, you only see the good and the best in people thats because you are so nice yourself.
I agree about the deepest wrinkles, there is nothing wrong with using a cream or something, but that inner beauty is more important thats what people should know when they would seriously accept that, then they would be at much more peace and able to live life more beautifully.
The best part about inner beauty, it always stays young. Getting old must be fun too hehe.
Edited:
I tend to follow you hehe, I agree about sadness, but when we come out of it positively, we always and always change for the better and are more strong than before, at times we don't feel it but we do become stronger.

Hey Sabah, wonderful thread.... the title itself says it all.... I wish Bauji would have read this parenting guide.... then we would have witnessed a wonderful GuNur and Bauji bond in the show as welll.... but alas.... some parents fail to understand their children....
Shilpa Aunty... where should I begin....? I watched this show first time when the Diwali episode was airing... and Nupur was visiting Mayank's house... the scene caught my instant attention... the trio were hilarious... first... when M comes looking for Mom... maa....mere paijameka naada lag nahi raha hai....🤣..... I literally fell off my chair... ROFLing... an adorable teenager looking for his Mom to fix his naada.... 🤣🤣.... imagine this happening with your brother in your house...what will be your reaction?....🤣.... but that's the sweetness about their mother-son relation... the mother is more like his friend.... and mentor.... and not typical indian parent....
That is what I love about the two... their bond... the mother who has raised her son in such a way that he is independent, smart... yet he cares for her motherly care, love and affection, her guidance.... and she delivers that care without highlighting the parent part... she doesn't impose her ideas or orders on him... but suggests them in a friendly way... she helps him resolve the confusions in his mind... she helps him resolve the anger, grudges that he feels against Nupur... she always guide him how to find his answers by himself.... That's the beauty of that character... Mayank is lucky to have a parent like her....

@ Butterfly,

Who wants to return to the insanity of youth?

As for your comments on the creatives choosing to ignore the development of Mayu and Shilpa Aunty, I urge you to create ff, for their past, little Mayu moments as well as for their future. I love IMAGINATION!

I have always believed and held to be true that the basis of any parental guidance must be a strong loving relationship. Your child should trust you. We will see in future posts the consequence of this trust and how Shilpa Aunty uses it to help Mayank grow, and whereby she can feel that she did her best! So many parents take credit for 'good' children based upon minimum input.

@SaJan_Sana4ever

Sincere Thanks!

Awww Sabah, me and write a FF, I have never deemed myself capable of writing esp as beautiful as the FFs here. I love reading the MN ones, i keep on searching for the old MN in them and I don't know always find them in one and the other. But I would urge you to write one please, that is indeed a splendid idea, please do consider it for my sake.😳
I agree about the future posts, i am always ahead to appreciate good work and if the creatives show and explore the mother-son relationship as you say, i would be one of the first ones to applaud them.😊
I agree about the foundation of the strong bond, its a simple loving relation accompanied by the right ingredients of trust, openess and care, I agree about the minimum output, as well in reality we see many cases of neglected children but the good part being that out of them, still many turn out to be amaxing people.
