Sidharth Malhotra explains why he and Kiara Advani chose the name 'Saraayah' for their daughter

Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani recently introduced their daughter to the world by sharing her name, Saraayah, along with a gentle glimpse of her tiny feet. The couple had earlier chosen to keep most details private, but Sidharth has now spoken at length about why they picked the name and how life has changed since they became parents in July.

At the We The Women event hosted by Barkha Dutt, Sidharth opened up about fatherhood with a mix of warmth and humour. He said he often jokes that he has “never lost so many arguments to somebody who can’t speak,” hinting at the lightness his daughter has brought into their home.

Explaining the origin of her name, he shared, “Saraayah is ‘Princess of God’. It’s not in Hindi of course. It’s an exotic name that comes from the East. It’s actually a Hebrew name.” He added that the last four months have shifted his priorities. “I realize that I am no longer the hero of the house. She is the superstar. She is 4 months old,” he said.

Sidharth also mentioned that he and Kiara were unsure at first about putting out the name publicly. According to him, “We were thinking whether we should announce it or not. Because har ghar mein announce karne ki zarurat nahi hoti. But then we realized ki chalo theek hai, we will make it official and announce her name.”

During the conversation, he took a moment to praise Kiara for her resilience through pregnancy and motherhood. When asked if he is an involved parent, he responded, “Yes! I mean, you should ask my wife that.” He continued, “I see my daughter being a superstar, my wife being a superhero. The process of just seeing her through pregnancy and birth is an eye-opening experience for me.”

He added that Kiara has handled everything with calm strength while he helps by “changing diapers and clicking pictures or just trying to keep a happy environment.”

On November 28, the couple shared a joint post announcing their daughter’s name, writing, “From our prayers, to our arms our divine blessing, our princess, Saraayah Malhotra.”

Kiara and Sidharth married in February 2023 in Jaisalmer and welcomed their daughter on July 15, 2025.
