Gaurav Chopra is a huge Amitabh Bachchan fan, and so he was mighty excited to pay tribute to the Big B at the recently concluded Gold Awards in Mauritius. The actor performed to the Khaike paan Banaraswala and Jumma Chumma songs as a part of his tribute, but little did he know that the paan he chewed on stage would leave a rather bad taste in his mouth!
Chew on this!
Staying true to the original song, Gaurav chewed on what was supposed to be a Banarasi paan for the Khaike song. However, sources revealed that it was actually a random leaf that someone plucked off a tree and gave to him!
A backstage source says, "During rehearsals, Gaurav was told he would be chewing on paan to get the act right. However, minutes before going on stage, someone gave him a leaf that definitely wasn't Banarasi paan. He spat it out as soon as he realised it wasn't paan."
Talking about the incident, Gaurav says, "I was supposed to chew on a paan, but was given something else instead. As soon as I chewed on it, I realised my mistake, but I couldn't do anything as I had to go on stage seconds later."
The actor adds that such incidents happen at award ceremonies and is happy that he didn't suffer any kind of poisoning. "I am a huge fan of Mr Bachchan and am glad I got an opportunity to dance to his songs. As for the paan incident, thankfully nothing serious happened, so I was lucky."
