Rajeev Is Aamir!!
[13 Aug 2007]

Rajeev Khandelwal, who became a rage due to his lover boy character ' Sujal' played in Balaji's Kahin To Hoga, is all set to enact a leading role in Rajkumar Gupta's upcoming flick ' Aamir.' This will be the first break for Rajeev in a film and that's too from a reputed filmmaker like Anurag Kashyap (he is executive producer of the film). The film is of thriller genre and will have no romantic angle to it. Rajeev Khandelwal will be present in every frame of the movie which is likely to deal with the topical issue of terrorism in a new light.

As Anurag Kashyap says, ' Rajeev Khandelwal is probably the only actor on television right now who has the potential to be a huge star and is complete star material. Aamir is Rajkumar's script. He has been my associate in Black Friday and No Smoking. I strongly feel that he has to make a film now and Rajeev fits the bill perfectly.'

It may be recalled that Rajeev Khandelwal and Aamna Sharif pairing has been very popular on the television and the two were expected to make their debut in a film together but luck seems to have other things in store for the actors.

For Nikhil Arya it's the happiest moment of his life. The actor is officially getting engaged to his lady love Neha Chabbria in Pune on 1 September. Nikhil has invited just a few of his select friends from the industry. It is a love-cum-arranged marriage for the couple and they had a secret ring ceremony only in the presence of family members in Tirupati on July 7.

His guest list includes Ekta Kapoor, Rajeev Khandelwal, Aamna Shariff, Boman Irani, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Sharad and Keerti Kelkar, Nivedita Basu, Sangeeta Ghosh, Kavita Kaushik, Karan Patel, Indraneil and Barkha Bisht from Mumbai.

The guest list includes Neha's close industrialist friends from Pune as well. He has arranged for accommodation and is hiring private cars to transport his buddies to Pune.

Close friend and designer, Asif Merchant, is going to dress Nikhil up in an informal suit designed, while his fiance will deck up in a gown which will be one of her own creations.

Says Nikhil, "I am taking a few select friends from Mumbai to Pune for my special day. I chose Pune as I have spent 25 years of my life out there and my family and closest buddies stay there. I invited all those who mean a lot to me. It's a lifetime occasion for me, so it better be special. It will be a blast and I want to make everyone feel at home and special on my special day.

Nikhil and Neha's families have known each other for the past 30 years but the couple met and fell in love only a-year-and-a-half back.

Na banegi apni baat?

The dismal performance of Tony and Deeya Singh's shows forced SAB TV to hand over their new show to another producer

Tony and Deeya Singh

It seems that Tony and Deeya Singh's so-called good rapport with Sony is over. Their production house DJ's was assigned a show by SAB TV which has been snatched away from them and handed over to Pintu Guha of Film Farm Productions.

Says a well placed source in the channel, "Tony and Deeya Singh is no longer in good terms with the channel. Their back-to-back failures like Jeete Hain Jiske Liye on Sony TV and Left Right Left on SAB TVgarnering dismal TRPs currently, left the channel heads concerned. In the mean time, they were assigned one youth centric show by SAB. Now, the show has been given to Pintu Guha of Tumhari Disha fame."

Tony and Deeya Singh had produced multiple shows, but their claim to fame was top of the charts show, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin. With Jassi..., Tony and Deeya's DJ became the most sought after production house after Balaji Telefilms. Having the best rapport with Sony, they went on to produce more shows for them. They went on to produce Jeete Hain Jiske Liye which was Renuka Shahne's comeback vehicle. Expectations were huge and Sony left no stone unturned to make the show a success by hiring big stars and erecting lavish sets. But, there were numerous problems with the project with no episode banks. It is said that Tony and Deeya did not pay much attention to the project. The channel authorities were very unhappy with it and they had warned them on several occasions to get their act together. At the end of it, Jeete Hain… was a big disappointment and it was scrapped within two months despite trying hard with a generation leap.

On the other hand, Left Right Left on SAB TV, Sony's associate channel was doing well with the TRPs initially. But, in the past few weeks, Anshuman Singh the director who made the show successful walked out. Now, even the star attraction of the show Rajeev Khandelwal has quit the show which has left the TRPs hitting rock bottom.

"With Rajeev and Anshuman Singh leaving the channel, Left Right Left has been registering very bad TRPs. The show has a huge budget and it has been a burden for the channel. Now, there is a big question mark on LRL too," adds our source.

Pintu Guha, when contacted, confirmed the news that they are working on one show for the past one month. "We just had a second meeting, the details are yet to be worked out. But yes, we are definitely doing the show. But, I cannot comment on whether Tony and Deeya were supposed to do it or not," he said.

Deeya Singh, when contacted said, "We are working on multiple shows for multiple channels." When asked about it, she just hung up.

It is every TV actor's dream to be the next big thing like Shah Rukh Khan. Rajeev Khandelwal is all set to make his entry into the Bollywood brigade. Unlike his contemporaries who either played good friends or siblings of the lead, Rajeev is making his debut in a lead role with a noted director. Rajeev says with a smile "I wanted to act in films but I was never in a rush to do one. For me the script and the filmmaker matter. I was waiting for the right role to come my way as I didn't want to compromise."

Now Rajeev is thanking his stars because his wait was worth it as he will soon star in director Rajkumar Gupta's thriller film called Aamir which is produced by Anurag Kashyap. Rajkumar who had penned the script and assisted Anurag in Black Friday and No Smoking is all praises for Rajeev. "On TV there is no doubt about Rajeev's status, reach or talent. He has the potential to be a big name. And moreover he fits the character in the film. " Rajeev on the other hand says, "I haven't signed the film yet." Seems like he knows lots about the slip between the cup and the lip.

Surprise... Rajeev Khandelwal did show up!

In times when television serials are pulled off air after a three-month telecast, completing a year is definitely a milestone. One that calls for a celebration. So on Thursday night, Deeya and Tony Singh hosted a bash to celebrate the first birthday of their serial Left Right Left on SAB TV and along with the cast of the serial, a number of their friends also showed up to revel in the good times. A gorgeous looking Aparna Tilak came solo, but hung around with Priyanka Bassi (who let her down and grooved the night away) and Vikas Manaktala. Rajesh Khattar and Vandana Sajnani sat and watched the revellers, while Rajesh Khera flitted around, alternating between playing with his bald pate and SMSing on his mobile phone. With the Independence day fervour still in the air, Programming Head Priya Mishra waxed eloquent on the patriotism that the youth of today possesses.
The most colourful sight at the do was not somebody's outfit, nor the decorations, rather, it was the chocolate cake that was laced with green, orange and blue icing, complete with little figurines and trees. The brownies that did the rounds later sure added 'brownie' points to this fun-filled first birthday bash. WHAT A COMEBACK!
All eyes were on Rajeev Khandelwal when he walked in, since guests didn't expect the reclusive actor to show up, especially since his role in the serial has ended. When he was asked whether he will take up another serial soon, he replied, "I will, if my character is moulded to take me further ahead from where I am."

TV's Seven Hottest Hunks Rated

Tanveer Bookwala, Bollwood News Service

In India TV is considered to be the actress' domain. But there are seven hot and happening hunks who deserve to be the main lead and make their presence felt even in the female-dominated field with their hunky appeal. A drool special

2. Rajeev Khandelwal

Hunk Rating: Cootchie-Coo Cutie

Rajeev spun his magnetism as the intense Sujal in 'Kahiin To Hoga' and won millions of hearts as he charmed women on screen and off with his killer good looks and undeniable charm. Rajeev is every inch a celebrity, with his eagerness, perseverance and perseverance, not to mention his smashing good looks and cute smile. Rajeev is the son every mother wants and the husband every Indian woman desires. And, as most girls will agree, he makes their hearts go, 'Left Right Left.'

Rajeev Khandelwal to make his Bollywood debut in 'Aamir'.

Rajiv Khandelwal

I am sure all you fans out there have been missing Rajeev Khandelwal miserably ever since he walked out from 'Left Right Left'. Well, here is a piece of good news; the actor is all set to act in his Bollywood debut.

Anurag Kashyap, the man behind 'Black Friday' and soon to come John Abraham's 'No Smoking' director, is now launching Rajeev. Anurag's assistant Rajkumar Gupta will be directing the movie titled 'Aamir'.

Anurag feels that Rajeev is the only telly star with a potential of becoming a huge name in Bollywood as his popularity is no less than any Khan. 'Aamir' is a thriller which deals with terrorism. Now before you start thinking on, who will be the female lead opposite Rajeev? Well, here's the deal, as the movie is a thriller and action packed there will be no lead actress; quite sad as we won't get to see Rajeev romancing.

After having seen him in the role of an arrogant romantic 'Sujal' in 'Kahin To Hoga' and stern yet soft hearted Captain Rajveer Singh Shekhawat in 'Left Right Left', it will be interesting to see him play a terrorist in 'Aamir'.

I am sure if Rajeev becomes a terrorist, we all girls are ready to die 'Left Right Left'.

Looks don't lie
11 Aug 2007, 0000 hrs IST,CHITRA UNNITHAN & NEHAL PAREKH,TNN

According to a recent study, women seem to prefer feminine looks in their partners. AT finds out what the fairer sex really wants.

It's time for the metrosexual man to rejoice, if a recent study is anything to go by. A British study says that women look for feminine features in their potential partners. Men with larger noses, smaller eyes and thicker eyebrows were viewed as less faithful partners and worse parents.

Feminine faces with wide eyes, finer features and thinner, more curved eyebrows seemed to be the best potential long-term mates. Does that mean metrosexual men are the perfect Mr Right for women in India?

For actress and TV host Rakshanda Khan, "It's the macho man any day. Someone who has stubble is like the ultimate for me." For actress Reshmi Ghosh nothing matters more than "cute eyes and lips. I am not in favour of men who are muscular. I certainly don't need a Salman Khan in my life.

Chocolate-boy looks are fine, but my man shouldn't be too effeminate." The combination of brains and brawns is a major turn-on for the bold and beautiful. TV host Suchitra Pillai says, "My kind of a man would be someone who is fit, healthy and conscious about himself.

All brawn and no brains is not my kind of a person. Also, he must have a sense of humour. Men with chocolate boy looks are not necessarily trustworthy. I would just say that to know a man, look into his eyes which is a window to his soul."

Psychologists in UK found that the women in the survey viewed the macho men as more dominant partners in relationships. Singer-actress Rajeshwari Sachdev believes that "men who don't have hair on their chest shouldn't be trusted.

I like men who have great eyes, good looks and are well-groomed. I totally disagree that women like men who are feminine looking. But love is blind so one can fall in love with anybody."

For some looks don't matter. Like TV actress Shveta Salve, who says, "For me, what matters is that I should get along with the man with whom I will be spending the rest of my life." Actress Sangeeta Ghosh feels it's not possible to judge a person's character on the basis of his looks.

"How can a person be called faithful or unfaithful by the way he looks?" she asks.Sure looks like our women do know what they want in their men!

The 'Big' crossover

As more and more small screen superstars take the big screen plunge, AT finds out what next
It's the most obvious route. Small screen's brightest stars are seldom content with their soapy success and often want to explore opportunities on 35 mm. Television is seen as a detour to films.
Even though television's successful imports to Bollywood - Aman Verma, Amarr Upadhay , Anita Hassanandani, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, Arif Zakaria, Mandira Bedi - et al haven't really found filmi glory yet, that hasn't prevented a new bunch of stars to think Bollywood. Mona Singh, for example , is training to get into an hour-glass shape and is brushing up her Hindi for a career in films.
Ditto for Sanjeeda Sheikh, Nausheen Ali Sardar, Aamna Shariff , Eijaz Khan, Sonal Saigal, Rajeev Khandelwal and Karishma Tanna who have shifted attention to films.

Chetan Hansraj who's done cameos in Asambhav, has just completed a Telugu film and admits that, "market has opened up for TV actors now. Apart from money, big screen fame is heady.
I enjoy doing films," he says. Sanjeeda Sheikh who's doing two prime time shows ( Kayamath and forthcoming Nach Baliye3 ) has been offered some films but she firmly points out, "Everyone dreams of working in Bollywood. I want to be in films too. But I will never quit television because that's where I started from. I'd rather do TV soaps than a cameo or a C grade film."

For small screen heartthrob Eijaz Khan (who's played the lead in TV shows Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka and Kavyanjali ), films are what he'd like to do. Eijaz started off doing cameos in Maine Dil Tujhko Diya, Zameen and Just Married and is playing the lead in Meerabai Not Out . But he sounds cautious, "Films just happened to me. I wanted to take a break and I got an offer for films too at the same time. The other offers are still in the pipeline, so I don't want to talk about it."

Rajeev Khandelwal who's essayed lead roles in Kahin To Hoga, Time Bomb and Left Right Left has been approached by hard-hitting filmmaker Anurag Kashyap for his new production. Rajeev is tight lipped about his films. Sonal Saigal, who played an important role in Sara Akash and the lead role in Hotel Kingston, is wrapping up Nagesh Kukunoor's Aashayein opposite John Abraham and claims to have given up on television for "now" . Others like Aamna Shariff, Karishma Tanna and Nausheen Ali Sardar have also taken a "break" from TV to chase their Bollywood dreams.

Not everyone's willing to take the big screen plunge though. Hiten Tejwani (who's played important roles in Jogger's Park, Anwar and Krishna Cottage) and Shabbir Ahluwalia (Shootout At Lokhandwala) are more comfortable doing television. Hiten Tejwani points out, "I don't have a godfather in the film industry who'll offer me good roles on a platter. I wouldn't say 'no' to good films, but I like television."

And if some of these big screen treks turn out to be box-office winner then expect more such cross-overs .
