@Payal: Actually, I think Dev is much happier overall than he was seven years ago. Then, happiness was only in moments he stole from a life that was, as a rule, under the crushing burden of keeping everyone happy and catering to their endless demands. That was the big drawback in how he approached his relationship with Sona; he didn't assert the right to be a good husband to her because that was something that made him happy but made Ishwari unhappy. Being a good husband was part of the time he stole for himself, and he felt guilty about it if it overstepped Ishwari's tolerance. Now he is no longer 'stealing' happiness but asserting his right live life in a way that gives him joy. Sure, his past and his family still hurt him, but he doesn't allow the feelings to linger for too long before he returns to his optimistic, carpe diem attitude.
If anything makes him sad, it is the fact that Ishwari can't accept him the way he is now, meaning her love was never unconditional and her happiness never lay in his, not when his happiness lay with Sona, and not now when his happiness is in his new lifestyle.
