Recap:
His mind was in a strange flux… he knew this was not right… yet he felt unable to resist… as he pressed his lips against hers… The tone of it all… painful, but saving… rewarding… yet punishing… He noticed her inability to react… Pulling back after the moment of sweet sorrow… his fingers casually lifted the glasses from her face… all the while, holding her gaze… The arrogant strands of hair having again escaped… "Jahan taq maine samjha hain… aap sachayee ko kaanch mein bhi pehchaan leti hain…" (As far as I understand… you can observe the truth even behind the glass…).
Part 9
Fire… His words were like stubborn flames amidst a fort of ice… Confident… and intense… having an air of their own… unquestionable. She looked on his retreated back, dumbfounded… startled… immobile… Was it possible to keep someone at such distance… and feel their breath as if it were their own? Her frozen limbs now seemed to have slowly found their meek strength… as she blinked… blinked away… the fiery moisture… as it refused to clear her fogged vision… her scattering presence… Angry… frustrated… exhausted tears streamed down her face… she could feel them thinly…
Fumbling against the wall, she felt towards the exit… Her trembling features not once leaving the tall frame hidden among the shadows. A few steps away from the door now, she felt her feet stop in their movement. Straightening herself mildly, she suddenly felt her eyes slip to the ground… as though fully realizing now… what the previous moment had held… Colour raced to her cheeks… burning like the coals in her chest… Despite his turned back, she felt uniquely self-conscious now… amazingly vulnerable to his unseen eyes, as they remained turned away from her… She squirmed uneasily underneath his hidden gaze… recounting the seconds… the minutes… the hours… she had spent for this moment… It had seemed like forever… The thought clouded her so profoundly for a minute, so to let by a meek… fleeting, smile. Realization dawned on her, how deeply she had attached herself to him… just through mere thoughts… and now that the moment unfolded… acidity stung at her eyes… as they lowered in shame… Why? A wave of anger… frustration… and disappointment took over her once again… She was angry at herself… for letting herself falter in strength at such critical a moment… at him for making her feel this way… for making her selflessly at his disposal… She knew… that in the passing moments, she would give up everything… if he merely asked… That's how he made her… melting ice… at the mercy of his fiery presence. She hated him for this… hated him… Blinking… she ran down the corridor… into the darkness… The sound of her footsteps clinging to the still air…
He could hear her shuffling feet mix with the silence… her feral eyes unveiling herself to him… He knew this was the critical point… the space between here and there… a state of nowhere… She would have given herself to him… right there… right then… All he had to do was turn… sink his eyes into her seas of innocence… But he couldn't do it… The thought of taking advantage of her feeble state in such circumstance would eat him alive… After all that he had made her go through… this would be the ultimate blow… But it would hit him much more so than her… The intention… the instinct to encase her in himself was so powerful… It dawned on him in these loosely threaded minutes… how overwhelmingly he had attached her to himself… They had never really been close… like that of a wife and husband… yet in some way or another… she had remained with him… The thought of feeling himself in her was too near… But he felt his eyes narrow… and tighten… as he recalled his brutality… Why didn't he pay heed to those helpless cries… From what right could he call himself her husband? She had always only wanted one thing from him… his faith… he couldn't even give that to her… And what had he been thinking now… allowing himself the liberty to treat her like this? Disgusted, he felt for support… eventually sinking into a solitary armchair… resting in the shadows…

"Gauri, I'm here… Armaan… beta mamma agayee…" So saying, she slipped out of her sandals, setting the keys on the side table… while threading through the kitchen and into the hallway… to her room. She could hear the light giggling coming from the family room, a light smile touching her own lips…
Throwing the green veil over her shoulder, she stopped mid-air… Itni der se koi awaz kyun nayi aayi? Shayad… She had become so absorbed in her thoughts that nothing else had triggered her into form… Dropping the towel in hand, she wandered into the living room… her hands falling to the sides as the sight unfolds before her eyes. "M-Milind," she whispered in a barely audible tone… She watched dumbstruck as she watched him carefully lift a sleeping Armaan from his shoulder onto the sofa. The tenderness of his touch did not go unnoticed by her vigilant gaze… there was a strange aloofness in his stride as he tip-toed towards her… a slender smile casually stirring on his lips. As his feet came towards her… her own retreated… finally hitting against something. She could not fathom the meaning of all of this… and what she heard next… did not help ease the confusion… "Wohe… actually main… tere ko sorry… bolne ke liye aya tah…" came the dusky voice.
Cheers,
